I'm about to do a section of the AT in Mt. Rogers and was wondering if it was safe to park a car where the AT crosses 600 at Elk Garden.

View Full Version : parking in Mt. Rogers whoops 07-24-2003, 13:33 I'm about to do a section of the AT in Mt. Rogers and was wondering if it was safe to park a car where the AT crosses 600 at Elk Garden. Lugnut 07-24-2003, 14:48 I have parked there a couple times with no problems. This was three or four years ago so things may have changed, but I doubt they have. This has always been a pretty hiker friendly section. Either direction will be a great hike but north is the best of the two. Have fun you lucky &*@(%$! :) MOWGLI 07-25-2003, 15:18 I talked to a local who told me about a hiker whose brand new Audi got totally trashed parking there (pre-2000). If you can find someplace to park your car for $20 or $30, you'll have peace of mind, and an intact car when you're done with your hike. Lone Wolf 07-25-2003, 16:10 You can park at my place in Damascus and I'll shuttle you. For free. There's been lots of break-ins and thefts this year all around the Mt. Rogers area. tlbj6142 07-26-2003, 16:54 I can vouch for Lone Wolf. He did the free parking/shuttle thing for us this past May at Trail Days. Great guy. Give'em some beer for the trouble. If I remember correctly he likes Busch and/or Miller. |
