JQ, I have no scientific info. I did begin B1 therapy 3 mos prior to my thru-hike and cont'd supplements during the next 6 mos. I really did notice that, while others' arms and legs were covered with bites non-stop, I had none. This may appear to be "luck of the draw" to most. But, I am fair skinned and a bite-magnet, which was why I took B1 in the first place. So, I was impressed!
There is a B1 "patch" that has had some really good reviews. I may try it out on my next hike. I think it is marketed under DeBug Insect Repellent Patch.

I take a product called Sulfurzyme which contains Chinese Wolfberry
fruit and Sulfur.Have not been bothered with insect bites-neither tick
nor mosquito since I started taking it.This is not a clinical trial and therefore
no proof whatsoever, just my personal experience.Garlic and B1 I have always heard will deter insect bites.Same has been heard about vinegar(teaspoon a day was the dose,I think, yuk.)Again,no proof. But I spend a good bit of time outdoors in the southeastern USA.

I lived in the Keys for 5 years. Anyone that has been there knows the skeeters can be really bad, as bad as anywhere, and the noseeums. After living there for a couple of years, I became immune to both. Some folks said it was cause we built an immunity to them, some said we just weren't allergic anymore, but my guess; it is the high levels of alcohol that stay in your system when you live in the Keys that keeps them at bay....:sun

Beats me.But I think it was named after John Milledge who may have
been a governor,I'll check and get back to you on that. The important
thing we have here besides the local college is the State Hospital for
the Criminally Insane.Way cool!:D

LOL Steve! Yup,John Milledge was indeed governor of the Peach
State and Milldegeville was the fourth Capitol-thank God that they
moved it to Atlanta or I would never find a parking place!BTW,for all you
literary conisseurs,it's the home of Flannery O'Connor. Also the great
politician Carl Vinson. They named an aircraft carrier after him.All John
Milledge got was a town, school, and cheesey motel named after him.
The mall references made in one of my earlier posts was directed at
sister city,Macon, where the crime problem is way up there on the charts.
Mville is still fairly tame by comparison.
