Goodaye Earthlings
I live in Australia and am thinking about purchasing a tarptent in my first step in going light weight.
It has all the things I am looking for, big enough to get my pack inside with me and very very light
Unfortuantley I will have to purchase the tarptent sight un sean and when the Australia dollor is only worth 66 cents of an American dollar its a bit of a gamble.
So my questions is what do other people on this site think about the tarptent.
Thanks for toyr help
Look at:
http://www.integraldesigns.com/tarps-frame.htm
for Integral Designs shelter variations. They have a superb line of them as well as, arguably, some of the better bivys made, i.e. Salathe. As for tarps, I have used the George Tarp[for two plus sleepers] and Sil shelter[1+sleeper] and both worked quite well. I have since gone with the Hennessey Hammock. I am sure others will offer other choices and suggestions as well.
Good Luck!

I recently bought a Squall tarptent from Henry Shires and I absolutely love it. It can be set up using trekking poles and is extremely light... has bug netting to keep the insects away and ventilate. It's a two-person tarptent so there is plenty of room for gear if you're going solo. It's a great lightweight shelter!
You can check them out at www.tarptent.com
Hope that helps...

While I don't own one (I'm a hammock dude), I have read nothing but good things about the TarpTent (http://www.tarptent.com).
If/when I'm in need of a two person lightweight shelter. One of Henry's models will be on my short list. Along with the Europa II (http://www.sixmoondesigns.com/products/Europa2.asp). If you look carefully at the Henry's new CloudBurst (http://www.tarptent.com/ttcloudburst.html) it looks quite a bit like the Europa II.
You can't go wrong with either product. Just make sure you use a silicone based seam sealer (such as SilNet (http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=47686837&parent_category_rn=4500661)) on all of the seams.
