This came up on another forum, so I deceided to post my experience here since it appears that not many are aware of this.
DustyBoots mentioned vertigos and that reminded me of my experience with glasses. Growing up in the Italian Alps everything was all right till I started to get "vertigos" at around 16-17 years of age. By then I was on my third prescription and wearing rather curved and thick lenses. Left Italy and never did any mountain hiking for a long time. Eventually Hoya came out with flat acrylic lenses, much lighter and indeed flatter than the previous types. Suddenly my "vertigo" feelings disappeared.
If you are myopic and have not discovered the 'flat' lenses, go and have a look through them !!!
