View Full Version : A ten gram kitten stove...
Skidsteer 03-13-2007, 19:57 ...with potstand included.
This is a rough draft of the idea but it gets the job done.
Materials:
-Auto expressions 'can-o-scent' from Wal-mart
-2" tealight tin
-2 1/4" tealight tin
Scribe the outer can (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=15601&c=516)
Bird's eye view of the fuel chamber installed (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=15600&c=516)
'Rough' Finished stove (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=15599&c=516)
Burn (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=15598&c=516)
It's not pretty yet, but it's light, very sturdy, and performs just like a Kitten stove. (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=5422&catid=searchresults&searchid=7081)
Stay tuned for refinements. :)
Jack Tarlin 03-13-2007, 20:13 A KITTEN stove?
Geez, I don't even wanna think about what you're planning to cook in it.
What are you guys, Southbounders or something??
And what's the Trans-fat count on a ten-gram kitten anyway?

When Baltimore Jack posts in the homemade gear forum we hold a good old fashioned kitten roast. Trans-fat count be damned. :D
Two Speed 03-13-2007, 20:30 Sooo, gonna make a coffee insert for this?
Skidsteer 03-13-2007, 20:36 Sooo, gonna make a coffee insert for this?
You know it.
Gonna use the Sheba on it for a pussy(cat) poacher?
Two Speed 03-14-2007, 08:06 You know it. :cool:Mmmm, the ultimate set up, possibly?*
*Inside joke. I'll explain later.

I see you're really roughing it. Nevertheless, even if Skidsteer sends you a kitten stove, I don't think the management would appreciate you cooking a steak in one of their rooms. Maybe if you go pool side it would be okay.;)

I build them and work at the same time. ;)
I think I can make them lighter still with no penalty in durability. Just got to find and buy another specialty tool....
Two Speed 03-20-2007, 08:00 Done a little testing with Skid's prototype. Works well, and will light up with 91% rubbing alcohol, so I think we may have a contender here.

Neato.
Did the 91% soot up your pot or were you just testing to see how easy it would light?
Two Speed 03-21-2007, 18:08 In the interest of brevity (and getting past that &*%*^$# 10 character limit) the answer is "yes."
Two Speed 03-21-2007, 19:56 Now that I've let my wise guy post age for a few minutes I'll try to add something helpful.
First, I like to test stoves with 91% iso. Finding Heet or denatured hasn't been a problem, but I still like to know if 91% will work. Never can tell, and finding out don't take but a minute or two.
Next, I think the opening in the cap is just a little large. I'm getting some flame lapping the sides of a 1.3 L pot and I think the 10 gKS (10 gram Kitten Stove) can be wrung out for a little more efficiency, if that's the way this project is headed.
BTW, using a replaceable cap for the top shows elements of stove tinkering genius. Want to "tune" your stove for more efficiency? No problemo, just get another cap and cut a slightly smaller hole. Want more heat? Cut a slightly large hole. Should make optimizing this stove with a variety of pots a pretty straight forward procedure.
Heck, if one really wanted to get stupid you could have a winter and a summer set up. :datz
As I said, we may have a contender here. Now, to find a couple of those little caps . . .
