View Full Version : Rain Jacket made out of sil-nylon don norton 03-22-2007, 10:20 has anyone made a rain jacket from sil-nylon? jesse 03-22-2007, 10:54 I made a poncho from sil-nylon. Ordered the material and pattern from Quest outfitters. It works in light rain. Have not been out in a downpour yet. I like the idea of a poncho because it serves as a pack cover as well. http://www.questoutfitters.com (http://www.questoutfitters.com/) hammock engineer 03-22-2007, 10:55 Check out this link, http://www.trailquest.net/ultralight.html . Brawny made one. She talked about it in her book. doodah man 03-22-2007, 11:11 has anyone made a rain jacket from sil-nylon? Don, Stephenson's makes one... $44 without hood & $54 with a hood. Made to order. (i.e. you send in your measurements and desired length). All-in-all a pretty good deal. Long feet 03-22-2007, 11:44 Hey, I have a Packa that I bought from Cedar Tree at the ALDHA Gathering last Fall. Its a great piece of gear. I also bought some of the Epic mitts that Cedar Tree was selling. He is a really nice guy and felt good about supporting a former Thru-hiker. I might get him to make an epic packa for me at some point. He will do any custom piece that you want. Cedar Tree 03-22-2007, 17:12 equinox makes a silnylon rain anorak, but silnylon is useless as a rain jacket/anorak material I agree, silnylon is useless as a jacket/anorak. But it sure works well with the Packa design. I think venting is better than "breathable" fabrics anyday. Long Ben, thanks for the props. However, your mittens are made from eVent, not epic. Big difference there. Cedar Tree Long feet 03-22-2007, 20:45 Hey Cedar Tree, Thanks for setting me straight on that. I don't really have much of a clue as to the difference of all of the new materials. I do know that I like the gear though. Thanks again. Jesse |
