I think that is the best list I've seen this year:). But, there is always something:

are you going to purify water? filter or chemicals?
hand sanitizer
sunscreen - remember, no leaves on the trees yet
I don't have a Jetboil, but 2 fuel co might be too much. Someone else will have to chime in about that...
any maps?
is your knife a swiss army w/ tweezers/scissors?

Otherwise looks pretty good...

See you on the trail,

Oops. I just noticed something else. What about hat and gloves? It will be cold.

I am going to purify my water by mooching off my sister's filter. I do have hand sanitizer - I forgot to put it on the list.
I am planning on getting a hat and gloves next week.

How much does it weigh with about five days of food?

Why 2 fuel bottles when one will do? And why a comb? Just cut your hair short before you leave. And while the Bible is fine, I'd never travel without something additional to read as well. And you shold have some sort of water purifying system of your own.....you WON'T always be able to count on using someone else's.

And personally, I'd rather leave Springer without underwear than leave without Trail Maps, but that's up to you.

All in all, a great list. See you out there somewhere.

Hey - a comb is really cutting back! I mean I could've packed my razor, eyeliner, and tweezers. My hair is already pretty short and the comb is one of those small, cheap ones. Dreadlocks aren't my thing.

Whoops.

For some reason, I thought you were a guy!

So.....never mind!

:D S'okay. I get that a lot. Well, not really but whatever. Thanks for your other advice though, Jack!

Although you can't really say for sure that I am a girl from this statement.... Guys nowadays wear eyeliner and tweeze their brows.

Well, if you're female, a freshette might come in handy. Also consider fingernail clippers and baby butt wipes. Scissors are handy, you might use them more than a knife. Two pair of underwear, max, and maybe you have too many shirts. Frog Togs don't do much to help keep you warm, are you sure you have enough insulation if it's very cold? Is your fleece of good quality?

Pretty darn good list, though. Have fun!

this is what I would drop.
1 short sleeve shirt
1 pair of underwear
1 pair of socks. I would wear a pair of socks and underwear and keep the other in my pack to stay dry and change into if my clothes that I have on get to wet. Besides it was so nice to change into semi clean clothes when I got to my camp spot. But really sucked putting back on wet or dirty clothes in the morning.
frogg toggs
matches you got a lighter
1 fuel canaster
chapstick
compass
space blanket
really look at your food too. Besides my water that was the most heavy thing I was carring.
Most of all good luck

There are things here that i brought and never used.

50' cord---i never used it
pot scrubber---finger works just as good
Dr. bronners---water and a finger are all you need to clean pans :P
compass---i brought one and never used it once
matches--bring 2 lighters

These wont take weight off really but I found i never used them.

This is a great list though :)

If you bring an mp3, bring a cheap one that uses batteries. Ipods will require you bring a power cord. Plus its guaranteed to break. You wont really need an mp3 at 1st because it will all be fun and new. Once you hit the VA green tunnel they come in handy :P

I started out with only a data book, as so many people will have maps for you to look at, and the trail is almost impossible to get lost on. The maps are good if you like to stop a lot and want to find a quick path to the nearest pub or are injured and need to find a side trail to get you to civilization.

One other word of advice is later on along the trail it may get hard to find fuel canisters for your jetboil. You may have to hitch into bigger towns to find the fuel you need. You can make a nice little pepsi can alcohol stove to keep for emergencies and all it takes is rubbing alcohol to work. 1 thing all towns will have is rubbing alcohol.

That is a great list!! :D

I would also recommend a map or at the very least go to http://www.aldha.org/comp_pdf.htm and download the companion. I did this, took the sections and shrunk them down to a smaller size. Have fun, I will be following you through trail journals.

I would also recommend another water filter just in case. I have the MSR Miox which is very light, and may be a choice for a backup if within your budget.

Things underlined I changed and things in bold I got rid of. My pack was close to 40 pounds most of my trip but by the time I left I had it at 23 pounds. Just thought I would put this out there for anyone interested in packing lists and weight.
