My sis and I leave the day after tomorrow for Georgia. I was freaking out really bad but I just had a 2 hour phone conversation with Touk (who hiked in '05 with GypsyLuLu) and she was wonderful to talk with.
Out of all I have read and researched two things have stuck out to me:
If you can pick up your pack you can hike all day with it and even carry it to Maine.
You can either a. leave the trail early just so you can see the people you miss and regret it later or b. see the people you miss when you are done hiking and be glad you did it.
Anyone else have any thoughts for me??

Yeah. Just hike and be happy. And try not to gloat about it.
Seriously. have a great hike. :)
If you feel like going home, picture yourself sitting at home, looking at all your hiking stuff. Think about all the adventures you'll miss by being at home instead of on the Trail. Then tell yourself you can't go home until the end of the week. (If it's the weekend, make it the end of NEXT week.) Something wonderful will happen, and you'll regain your emotional balance.
Have a good hike!

Hey Mambo-Tango -
I am right behind you with 5 days before I start. I am freaking out with everything left to do but what will be will be.
Once you hit the trail a whole new world will develop. If I remember right your boy friend will be in Japan anyway. You have your sis with you.
I know for me I get into a trail routine and that kind of consumes me. Yes, I miss my family, terribly at times, but you can't let that consume you. The task at hand takes over.
Things like food, water, shelter, food, and water (yes I repeated 2) will begin to consume your thoughts and the extra space will be filled in by all the new friends you will be hikling with on the trail.
Remember never make big decisions when it is raining, or when you are tired, or hungry, or cold. Find a friend, get warm, rest, think about it tomorrow.
I hope I can run into along the way and maybe give you a ray of sunshine if you are down. :sun

Have a great hike Ms. Tango.
