Not too bad of a Pack, however I believe that the ULA Cataylst is lighter and better designed however the ULA does cost more. My favorite of the Golite packs is the New Jam2. It just 3000 CI but weighs 1 Lb and 5 oz. This pack got very good reviews on backpackinglight .com. If you could cut back to a 3000 CI size pack, you will be way ahead of the game. 4200 CI is too much even for me on this years thruhike. By summer I wont be using but about 2/3 of my ULA P-2.
Also I saw a Osprey Talon 44 today and its nice. I would definetely pick it over the Golite Quest. Cost $165 weight= 2 Lb, 7 Oz, 2600 CI but it carrys alot for that volume.
Notice that I keep trying to get you into smaller packs? Hint Hint :)
If you have to have 4200 CI then my suggestion is the Six Moon Design Starlite. This pack carries 35 Lb ( no stays )no problem, it does need a sleeping pad for the frame but is very strong. I got my wife one and its one nice pack for the money, also $165, volume 4200, weight 25 Oz, hipbelt pockets, 3 Large mesh pouches on outside, ADJUSTABLE Torso length and easily holds as much as you want to shove in it. It sure beats my GVP G4 hands down, especially in its carrying ability. This pack is half the weight of the Quest, same cost and has more and better designed features. Backpackinglight.com did a weight tests on all of the frameless packs and this one won hands down. Rated up to 40 LBs with the stays.
Good Luck and cya on the trail
A friend bought one. we are walking from Clingmans Dome to Fontana Dam at the end of May. I'll let you know what he thinks after that.
