i have learned that my g-friends mom is getting me a hammock for my b-day. her mom has a friend who is an avid backpacker, and knows that i am, and he suggested the gift, so im crossing my fingers that its a good one
(good one being a lightweight, weather and bugproof, etc.) and not some vietnam surplus. however, i know that she is getting it from an outfitter or outdoor store in the atlanta area, and i beleive it is not a place like rei . i was wondering how well distributed some of the more popular brands, like hennesy for example, of hammocks are at a place like this?

REI carries the Hennessey models but I don't know that I have ever seen any of the other popular ones there.

Yeah, HH are the only ones I have seen outside of places that specialize in hammocks. They are a good all in one product, just look into a larger tarp.

...just look into a larger tarp.

So true ...still have the original little blue fly that came with my HH ultralight backpacker (pre-asym model). Barely went end to end on the hammock.

Might not be the hammock of your dreams you get. You never know. If not, I suggest buying one you really want without telling your girlfriends mom.

Gift certificates can be a godsend.

HH's are in a lot of the smaller outfitters...that's where I got mine. Eagle's Nest Outfitters, Crazy Cribs and Byers are in several stores, too. All decent hammocks.

ok, ive received more news. the one she bought me cost her 80 dollars and did not come with bug netting, but apparently it has zippers to receive it. im a little disheartened. does this model sound familiar to anyone?

Maybe an ENO, but the zippers are throwing me.

Thank her kindly. Take it back. Get a HH.

I don't know of a hammock with zippers and no bug net. I know of a couple of hammocks in that price range with zippers...but they all have bug nets.

Or maybe it's a misinformation campaign...psyops so you don't guess your present.

eno has no zippers and they don't cost $80. i think it might be the clark, but where did the bug netting go???

Its not a Clark, I've never seen one in a store and they cost way more than $80 new.

Maybe it's a Claytor Mosquito Hammock. http://www.mosquitohammock.com/ There's one for $90 ($80 if you buy 2 or more) & doesn't come with a tarp...

Nope, can't be a Claytor if it came from Atlanta. Sorry for that post.

ok, so they were confused. its an eno, which doesnt have zippers but has the tubular bug netting style. im getting it tommorow, i will hang on to it becuase it will be great for day hikes and what not and a decent overnight hammock. im defineately still wanting a hennesey.

eno does not come with the bug netting, you can buy theirs, but its waaay too heavy. if you can sew, attach velcro or omni tape to the outside seams end to end, do the same to noseeum(nanoeeum is way lighter) and you have a removable bug neeting when you don't need it. i have been using ans eno for over 4 yrs. no regrets.ive tried other, but i always go back.

hell yeah, the eno is comfortable as hell. not the lightest on the market, but that strap system is wicked easy to hang. literally one minute. im going to improvise some bug netting and make a tarp for it.
