Anyone else out there loyally been buying Montrail Hurricane Ridge shoes for the last couple of years? Apparently they made some changes to them this year that don't agree with my feet so much, without changing the way they look. Or, at least not noticeably until I really started looking at them to see what changed. I ended up returning the pair I bought about a month ago today.

Basically, I'm wondering if people know anything about the structural changes to the shoe.

When I called Montrail, they were very up front about there being a seam that runs horizontally across the shoe's toe bed which has changed, and said that many people were complaining about it. When I returned the pair I had bought to REI I tried the 11.5's (which I usually wear) and the 12's, this seam on the toe bed dug into my foot on both sizes. I may be able to deal with the digging on the 12's though. It's not that bad.

But, what I'm more concerned about is what they've done to the sole of the shoe. I was first told in response to an email to Montrail that they had made the sole more flexible, When I responded and asked if the additionally flexibility could have removed some of the cushioning of the shoe, the response I got back said that the customer rep had messed up. That the sole of the shoe wasn't more flexible. That, in fact, it was just the rest of the shoe that was more flexible.... But, that's the thing, I only wore the shoes about 4 times, but I do think the bottom of my feet were hurting more than in the past when I've worn this shoe model.

Anybody know about any changes made to the sole of the Montrail Hurricane Ridge?

What about the effects of making the sole to the shoe more flexible to the cusioning provided by the shoe?

I don't know about specifics, but I can concur that they changed them because a few months ago I bought a pair of the old style ones on closeout at a local gear store.. They were marked way down due to the new design being out.

BTW, I love them.

I have a pair and got blisters for the first time on a section hike .It seems to me that where the body of the shoe meets the insert the material seems to bunch up just a little especially in the heel which is where I developed blisters. I changed out the montrail inserts with superfeet and they worked well. I like the way the montrail hurricane fits but have found them difficult to get on with heavier winter weight socks. I also have a pair of Nike XCR Gore Tex that I like better. Hillbilly

I just talked to someone at REI who had also been buying this shoe for years. The bottom of her feet were hurting when she bought this shoe too.

Ticks me off because I had been buying this shoe for years. This year they redesign it and it sucks. I'm switching to the Salomon Comp 2's. On my way to REI now.
