Does anyone know what the current conditions are like for Hanover, NH?
We just got about 4-5 inches of snow here on the coast of Maine, and Snowman and I are hoping to get over to Hanover to do some hiking on the AT. Maybe we'll have to wait until May, but I'm really looking forward to get back out hiking on the trail a bit! We're planning to do Hanover north to Lyme-Dorchester Road in the next few weekends... so any updates would be great! Thanks :)

I'm about 20 miles from Hanover. We've got about 4-6 inches of snow right now but that doesn't mean much. You'll have a gap between the cold weather and the black flies. That is usually mud season. That's a pretty nice section to hike from Hanover over to Glencliff. You wouldn't want to hike it now but in a few weeks it might be fine. It's too soon to guess how it will be. If you ask again before you go I could be of more help.

Thanks Superman! I'll write again when I'm more sure of the dates we're headed over to Hanover. I appreciate it! :)
I am planning on hitting the trail southbound into Glencliff from my house in North Woodstock this week when the temperatures rise. We had the worst wind damage recorded in the area just the other day. Wind reports of 150mph at Loon Mountain. Record low pressure also recorded on Mt Washington. If the trail conditions have damages anything like the damages in town, expect alot of blow downs. I have been without power for 4 days and it isnt expected to be repaired for many more. I may try to hook up with some of the maintainers around here, they will surley need some assistance. There is also severe flooding in many areas from all the rain, I wouldn't be surprised if footbridges are damaged or even washed away. The storm was that bad! I havn't been up to the hostel yet to see if there was any damage there, I'll make a point of finding out later today. Let me know if you do decide to hit the area.

Blister,
Thanks for the update. Here in midcoast Maine, we had a ton of rain and wind, but no snow, with lots of local flooding further south of us, so I'm sure you're right--there will likely be lots of water and blow-downs on the trail. However, we've decided to head over to Hanover anyway this Sunday/Monday, and see how things go.... we'll do our best to pick up along the trail as we go and clear things out if we can!
Let us know how conditions on the trail are if you do get out hiking before Sunday!
Thanks again :)
