I have a marmot atom +40 down bag.. will that be good for SOBO thru-hike starting June 1?
Damn, you're from TX, should be fine with nuthin. I have a rough and tough buddy from TX who swears a Whopper is better there. And Troy is the greatest. Took him up Poudre Canyon in CO. It was June. "I won't burn." Now we were on the backside of the neversummer mountains...
It will be chilly here if you are now in TX. You will see snow and ice in the tucked away shady woodsy spots.
You will be happier if you have enough to be comfortable down to @25.
My opinion.
I hope it does not go below 35* before October. Possible...

Poke around here and you might find some historical temperatures. Baxter uses the Caribou forecast, not Millinocket.
Keep a starting point for reference, because once you get digging in NOAA, you never know what you might stumble upon that is cool. Smog, smoke, weather bouys, lots of fun.

Maybe not in The Whites. Last year on 01Jul on Washington it was 44F around noon. You might have some uncomfortable nights with a 40F bag...
See you on the trail (& at Trail Days),

Do you think if I layered up before bed I would be ok in the whites? With my mountain hardwear thermals, pants 100 fleece, and if need be my rain gear?

also I have talked to people that have the marmot atom +40, and they say its good down to freezing with just normal bed clothing.
