Do you mean "From Port Richmond...to...South"? If so, I could see this turning out more like, "Escape from Murda' City" than any of your other posted escapades. No can do, but hope to meet you out in the hills sometime.

Murda' City+Heat Wave+Election Year= Action News Emmy. We're talking NATIONAL COVERAGE. All expenses paid. Gonzo. Get me out of here!

Johnny.

Got plans for Sunday in Schuylkill County. Might be able to intercept you. Will monitor thread for new developments.

of course ill be bringing magic for some lucky hiker. last week it was a bag of peprage farm double chip cookies we had to eat cause no one was worthy. this weeks feed will be more elaborate and better cause we fully exspect to hit thruhikers.

I sometimes can't find hikers worthy of magic too. It seems the people I meet become less worthy the more hungry I get. Anyone else noticed that relationship?:D

This episode is becoming like that Seinfeld episode about nothing, except nobody's even posting about nothing.  OMG, this is a sad day indeed.:(

Come on, Matt. Surely you can throw up some junk. Not feeling well tonight?:D

Wedding on Sunday.

Don't worry ladies, it's not mine!

If it were yours, are the ladies supposed to feel sorry for themselves, or for the bride?

Whether anyone escaped from Philly or not, I hiked south, south of Port Clinton from the SGL parking area at PA 183 to Rentschler Marker. It wasn't a long hike, but I did see some native plants in flower and a male scarlet tanager. I heard thrushes, but neither heard nor saw a red-eyed vireo.

I rode my Harley (http://gallery.backcountry.net/album48/aae) under the A.T. twice this weekend...in those tunnels on the Northeast Extension. :banana

Shades, why didn't you tell me you were hiking? I would have bussed to you.

I ended up working most of the weekend. Sunday I started early and knocked off for 8 hours, before returning and working again until midnight. What came in the middle was much more fun.:)

I visited Frog Hollow Environmental Education Center near Friedensburg in preparation for a hike I will lead there next Sunday. My intention was to get a general feel for the lay of the land and what native plants might be observed there next weekend.

On the return trip from Schuylkill County, I visited briefly with family and took a short hike of less than 1 hour just east of PA 183 which I described above. Although I've covered that portion of the A.T. many times before, by walking cross-country, roughly parallel with and in sight of PA 183 from Rentschler Marker back to the SGL parking area, I was able to see things I hadn't seen before.

When botanizing along an intermittent stream, I spied the tanager. I saw some unexpected plants too.

I'm always amazed by the way birds return from their winter ranges with such seeming precision. My book I consulted upon return indicated scarlet tanagers normally arrive in Berks County the 1st week of May. That feller was right on time.;) Incidentally, Pennsylvania Germans called the scarlet tanager der Blutfink (blood finch) or der Flamvoggel (flame bird).

It was a good time and much too short. Sometime, when there's more time to spend together, we'll do that.

Frog Hollow??? Much of that land recently been cut? It has to be the same place. Right near a gun club? if that is the spot you were literally within spitting distance of my wife's families land. They have about 100 acres in that valley.

The timber on the left (south) side of Stone Mountain Road into the site was recently cut. Your family might enjoy some of the activities listed here (http://www.co.schuylkill.pa.us/Offices/Conservation/NatureClub.asp).

CamoJack is so tough that he works on Army choppers while they're still running.

They used to say "tough like Earnhardt," but we all know how that one worked out...

Actually, I have done just that...while I was still in the military. Now that I work in the "Military-Industrial Complex" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military-industrial_complex), I just build 'em... :o
