View Full Version : Slackpacking in a Gearskin?
I just finished making my DIY gearskin. But how do you use it for a day pack?
What I usually do is to wrap anything like water bottles that might fall out in a piece of rain gear and stick that lump at the bottom then hook the strap of my essentials bag through one of the Gearskin straps then stuff any soft stuff on top. Tighten all the compression straps as far as possible and use the bottom load lifter straps to raise the belt up some to be comfortable.

Near the top there is a link that says Photos, clicking it will open the drop-down menu, you should choose Upload. From there I think its pretty self explanatory. You choose which to upload, then add tags (description, placement, etc.) then upload them.

What if it rains and you are using your rain gear to hold stuff in your gearskin? I would probably carry a trash compactor bag and put my dayhike items in it, then load it in the gearskin.
that will work also - if it looks like rain I would use some other piece of gear for wrapping the water bottles or I might just tie a loop on the neck of the bottles and run a strap through the loops to keep them in the Gearskin - what I stated above was just what I normally do - there are other options such as the trash bag or other bags or stuff sack(s) or ...
Here are a few pictures of my DIY Gearskin:
