I'm planning an '04 thru-hike. Anybody know of some good golf courses near the trail? Do they rent clubs?

I was wondering the same thing. I've worked so hard to get my handicap down this year. I think being away from the game so long during a thru-hike will really set my golf game back!

Yes there is one in the Smokies just north of Clingmans Dome called Air Ball Fareway. There is also one run by the AMC between Mt. Madison and Pinkham called Par 373. Greens Fees are $373 for one hole, but you can Work for Stroke. No golf carts allowed.

Blue Jay, That's brilliant. I'll just bring about a dozen golf balls, a driver and a 9 iron. Nevermind with the golf corses, what's par for 2170 miles.

There's a course near Delaware Water Gap, Gorham N.H., Franklin N.C, Bryson City, N.C. There's courses everywhere near the AT. I took a driver up on Katahdin 5 years ago and drove a couple balls towards Millinocket.:cool:

Since they didn't go that far you were able to find them and pack them out.

There is a public course in Warwick, NY off of Rte 17A. It's owned by Orange County, NY. It's about 2.5 miles west of Mount Peter (on left).

In May of '96 I met a guy named Six Iron one day north of Springer. He had carried a golf club from Katadin and it was his intention to hit a couple off Springer upon the completion of his hike. I noticed he is registered as a member here so maybe he will see this and tell us how far the ball went.
