Hi, this August or September, I'll be hiking the Mass. AT northbound from Jug End Rd. to the Vermont border. It should take me about a week and I was looking for a secure place to leave my car that is close to the Vermont line or 5-10 miles into Vermont. Doe anyone know of a good location? thanks

The guidebook recommends the parking lot of the Greylock Community Club in North Adams on Rt. 2. I've left my car there with no problems. Maybe some WBers from the area can give you a better idea.

You may want to look at this page from the http://appalachiantrail.rohland.org website: http://rohland.homedns.org/at/state/state_detail/AT_state_detail.aspx?stateID=12%20&sectionID=104

Greylock Community Club is still a half a day's hike from the VT border, so if you need to cross the border, you would need to backtrack. Next spot for a week of parking would be Rt 9, east of Bennington VT.

Where were you planning to leave your car at the south end? Jug End Rd is not the best spot for a week's parking. I'd suggest contacting one of the hotels in Great Barrington to see if you can leave it in their lot.

Thanks for the advice. Someone has offered to let me park my car at their house for the week near the VT./Ma./NY. border and pick me up at the end of my hike. There will be some back tracking but not too bad.
I'll be getting dropped off at Jug End Rd. for the start so I won't have to leave my car there. I had left it there last year though when I hiked the CT section with no problems, but it is kind of an isolated spot.

if you need any support on the southern end, let me know. I live about 5 miles from jug end.

I sure could have used your help last summer when I parked there. It took awhile to find Jug End Rd. The AT map shows the trails real well but doesn't label the roads as well.
My wife will be dropping me off at the trail head on Jug End Rd. after we drop off my car near Vermont. Thanks for the offer.
