I just hiked blood mountain and had bad experiences with my new EMO hammock. If anyone has any advise about set up/ knots/ tips, i would love to know. I like the hammock style but getting little to no sleep is not where it's at. help!

Wow...I have an ENO and it almost puts me to sleep by laying in it. I haven't spent the night in it though. What exactly kept you up? What do you strap it to the trees with? How high and how much sag? I use the slap strap pros and a MacCat standard. I don't have a bug net yet. Sorry to hear you lost sleep...it does suck!

I'm not familar with the ENO hammock. A few people on www.hammockforums.net (http://www.hammockforums.net) use them. Does it have a strap or cord coming off the end? There is a thread on HF that shows the Speer 4 wrap knot that is pretty easy to do with a strap. Don't give up, hammocks have a different learning curve, but it is well worth it when you get the hang of it.

The ENO's are designed with carabiners at both ends to be used with their Slap Straps (or Slap Strap Pro - which is longer and lighter BTW). With the straps, I have found it MUCH easier than diddling with the ropes on my HH.

Im such a genius that the last time I tried hanging mine...the straps were an uneven distance to allow for the right sag. So being a genius with delayed inginuity(sp) I went *EUREKA(sp)! I can flip this strap around and now the loops are closer to the tree! DUH!* So for 1 minute I was thinking what a pain in the arse...then I put on my thinking cap!:D :sun

You say you're not getting any sleep. We need more information. What were your bad exeripnces? how do you want them to change? What about your ENO scares you? Do you have trouble sleeping in general?

Several hammock hangers from the Atlanta area are on www.hammockforums.net. Come on over and lets see if we can't get you together with an experienced hanger to work out the problems.

I have switched my HH to the ring suspension system. Just wrap the end with the biner around the tree and clip it to the strap, then just pull to adjust the hammock tension and location between the trees. A whole lot easier than messing with the tree huggers and ropes.

For easy to follow directions, Just Jeff has a great page. http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeGearRingBuckleSupports.html

Yep, it's the best way to hang it. Really makes set-up a breeze.
You can hang on trees 20+ feet apart and as wide as redwoods if
you so desire. I think I read where someone is using about 24 feet
of webbing per side on hammock forums.

Here's an extremely long thread about it:

Yep, always willing to help out a new mafia member.:D
I have a Hennessy and a Speer hammock. Not really familiar
with the Eno but would be willing to help you out in any way.

24'??? I only have about 15 on each side of mine and I'm thinking of cutting that down.

Now if i can come up with a similar set up for my tarp, I could be set up before my water boils for dinner. ;)

Yeah, mine is only 15 feet each side. And I use 1.5 inch Polyester webbing, so anymore will be more weight than I want to carry.

I have a MacCat Deluxe (10' ridge length) and a HH Exp Asym. I look for the ideal 18' of tree separation. I like to double wrap around the tree, so for a 1' diameter I could get away with 10' straps as a minimum. I need to get a couple more setups under my belt before I shorten the yet. Not in a real hurry to shorten them.

My Black Cat has around a 12' ridge length. 16'-18' tree seperation seems to work best for me.

for what it's worth, when looking for trees to hang from i know that my ski poles stretched out at arm's length is the minimum (about 12') for my HH... and it's easy to judge an extra 3 or so feet on each side for hanging from trees 12'-18' apart. any other ideas?

Well this one works if you wear size 10 mens shoes. The shoe is actually 12 inches long. Works like a charm. Kinda like a sobriety test in the woods.:D

I walk off 6 paces. Anything shorter and I keep looking.

I pace it off too - seven paces for me since I use a _large_ tarp

I just eye ball and make it work. The trick is long webbing and guy lines.

There is a easier way....with hiking poles in hand outstretch ur arms and find two trees from pole tip to pole tip and ur set....hang ur tarp

I don't carry poles, so pacing is the only way for me.

That's what I do. I pitch it up and make adjustments later.

I was recently at a music festival at Deer Fields out side of Asheville and i counted at least 10 people in my campsite alone sleeping in ENO hammocks with the Slap Straps! the music venue has trees near the stage and it was a constant changing color of ENO hammocks as festival goers would hang them (with the slap straps) for the music they wanted to see and take them down when they were done...! i was very cool to see recreational and hammocking and hammock camping brought to such a main stream fore front and how easy it was even for a stoned out tripping hippy to get his hammock up and down!!! KEEP ROCKING IT ENO USERS!!!
