For those of you unfamiliar with the Northern NJ area, you may not realize that the ATC Conference's locale in Mahwah, NJ is only 10 miles from the best camping/hiking outfitter in the world: Campmor. Until very recently, I visited family frequently in Northern Jersey and always found my way there. You've seen their catalog, now see the store. It's the most impressive oufitters store I've ever seen including the REI flagship in Seattle.

There's nothing on the otherwise-thorough Conference website which indicates this - perhaps the ATC doesn't want to show favortism to one outfitter. Anyway, I'm attending the ATC conference and will make at least one run to Campmor, probably Monday July 16. So if any conference attendee wants to tag along, let me know through WhiteBlaze or look me up at the Conference.

When I worked in Jersey, it was like making a pilgrimage. You gotta go at least once in your life!!

Has the nearby Tom Sawyer Diner been repaired following its fire?

I used Campmor for my primary outfitter during my AT thru hike and they never let me down. Ordered items shipped out right away to my resupply points ("hold for AT hiker" no problem) and were never late. They were more reliable than my family for sending things out : )

1-800-CAMPMOR is all you need to remember. Their customer service people will assist you if needed.

I normally don't endorse outfitters but never having to worry about replacement gear arriving in time is PRICELESS. Campmor rules!

Happy hiking!

The Campmor catalog is also awesome. Old school line drawings, they list the weights for their products and it makes kick-ass bathroom reading material. :)

Tom Sawyer...gone for over 6 years...they turned it into a Container Store, Starbucks, and Cingular outlet. Go to Suburban Diner (Rt 17 and Century rd (south towards NYC). Feeling adventurous? Go south past the malls to the Bendict's Diner...when I was growing up their the owner's son was a waiter. He was blind. No joke!

I grew up (graduated HS) less than a mile from Campmor and applied at the store every higshcool/college/winter/summer break. Never hired me...must have looked distru****l.

PS. I think i've asked this before...anyone remember when the Terminator T-1000 lost Ramsey Outdoor in a card game?

JT, is it possible we're talking about different Tom Sawyer Diners? I ate breakfast there last year waiting for Campmor to open. http://www.tomsawyerdiner.com/aboutus.html

A month later I heard on the radio there'd been a bad fire and that the diner was closed. I hope the repaired it and reopened.

Wasn't the Tom Sawyer diner on Oradel Ave less than a mile east of Rt. 17? I don't know about the fire but I know it's existed in the last 6 years.

Another diner: On Rt. 17 going north towards Mahwah, there's the Horizon Diner on your right.

JT, are you from Ridgewood? That's where I grew up.

Looks Like I've confused it a bit. Tom Sawyer was right behind the fashion center on Ridgewood/Oradel...yep, gone last time I looked. The fire was another one...dang how Jersey still confuses me.

Graduated from Ridgewood HS...grew up in CT. Parents just sold the house in R-wood...that was a tough moving day.

Nice to see another North-Jersey (read: New-England-New-Jersey) person on here.

Parent's house was a Wyndemere and John (2 blocks from the Highschool).

"The Seville" that's the one that burned down and became a Cingular store. But, Tom Sawyer, still dust. Anyone remember the Terminator and the tent-store?

RHS Class of '66 - yeah, I know, ancient history. My house was on Grove St near Prospect. My mother just passed 3 years ago after living in the house for 55 years. It's now been sold and my brother retired and moved from Ridgewood so I have no family left there.
