My first AT hike starts in two weeks from Springer. Hopefully 240 miles this leg to I-40. Will there be points in Georgia I can drop packages off ahead of time? Neel's Gap? Preferably Dick's Creek Gap. I'd like to drop off ten pounds of various items like food and such things as vitamins, clothes, things to replenish what I am carrying instead of carrying it all from the git-go. Likewise, if there is a drop-off there must be a 'drop stuff' place to unload that which was suggested I never bring in the first place but maybe did, bug spray, walking sticks, etc. Thanks.

get yourself a data book, put what you need in your pack and start walking. Oct is a really good time to be in that part of the woods. Don't be scared by those who tell you it's gonna be freezin. (although you should probably carry a 10 deg. sleeping bag or thereabouts)
I had 70 degree days in Dec in Nj a few years ago. And you'll be going thru there 2 months earlier.

The data book will tell you where you can resupply aprox every 50 miles or more in NJ and NY. I'd carry about 3 days food at a time.
this website can help you a lot with what should be in your pack. Have fun. sounds like a great trip.

I would suggest buying generic food, off-brand gear and drinking plain water. ;)
