Hey I remember reading somewhere about a section of the trail that is similar to the 100-mile wilderness in that it is about 50-60 miles in between resupply points or a road that could take you into a town. My problem is that I cannot remember where on the trail this is. I believe it to be in the bottom half of the trail and im looking for anyone who could let me know where this is.
The Smokies? The section through the GSMNP is 70+ miles with no easy resupply options. Gatlinburg is quite a long hitch from Newfound Gap.

I dont have my mileage guide handy but the Mahoosucs on the ME NH border is right up there. Unlike the 100 mile wilderness, there are no roads of any kind crossing the trail from where you leave the hogan road in Shelburne NH to RT 26 in Maine. Granted if you want to drop off the ridge on a side trail a couple of miles there are roads but it is pretty remote for where it is. I believe that it is the longest section without roads north of the smokies and south of the 100 mile wilderness. The run from the dirt road at the base of Saddleback in Maine to the Caribou Valley road on the back side of Sugarloaf is also a nice long run if the old narrow gauge RR bed is ignored (its impassable to traffic)
I want to second the Mahossic section. Gorgeous, alpine, very hard terrrain, very very remote feeling!
