Hey all. I was fortunate enough to be one of the first hikers up the Hunt Trail as the Rangers were saying (on May 31) it probably would not be open but let four of us up on June 2. Conditions were perfect. What a great way to start a thru. Unlike last year I could see for a hundred miles, not just 100 feet.
Met the first NOBO - Trek - on the 4th followed by GHOST on the 6th and Toothpick on the 7th. Made it to Monson by the 9th.
Trail conditions were fantastic all through the 100 mile although I did come across some folks who said they'd had nothing but rain and bugs. I must be blessed (except for the face plant I did at East Branch ford:rolleyes: ).
Looks like the first SOBO left Katahdin on May 21 and five or six more before the weekend of June 1st when there were 5 WBers there including jkashley, tortuga + hikerchris although not sure how they've fared so far.
I did hear that a large group of SOBOs were at Hurd Brook on June 4th.
Also there are a few SOBOs from last year out and about on the trail including DawnTreader in NH.
Aaaanywho, hope everyone has a great trip and I look forward to checking in on the thread at each stop to see how the season is shaping up for my sister and brother hikers.
Peace All :) :)

Thanks.
Have been at Shaws for a couple days and the rest and food have been excellent as always. Love this little town of Monson and Dawn, Dana and crew have been great.
The only bummer is that Lulu's isn't open this summer but she was gracious enough to come in last night and make a great dinner for all of us at Shaws. It was deelish, with chocolate cake for dessert.
Heading back to Katahdin tomorrow for climb #2 as a friend is here from England starting a SOBO and thought it would be great to summit with him as we'll be hiking the rest of the way together once he catches me up.
Peace

TomScanlan has maed it mostly to monson as well. I'm still technically 10 miles north, but wanted to take a couple days off to get over some boot/ankle situations. Poppa got a new pair of shoes and will be headed back tomorrow.
A+ to Shaw's, whitehouse landing, and the AT lodge!

Thanks for the MEGA updates!:sun
Warraghiyagey and 6-8 other Sobos at Pierce Pond today. Warraghiyagey was paddling around the pond in a canoe from Harrisons camp and was taking a couple days here to enjoy THE CRY of the LOON:) and tranquility of the area. Said he had the WHOLE place to himself last night. Twas a beautiful day on the pond.:sun Hi Tom
I was hiking around Wesser this weekend. All the NOBO section-hikers arriving at the NOC had met Tyvek this past week, finishing up the SOBO he started last year.

I had a canoe at pierce pond as well. too windy for a great canoe ride, but it was great to be out on the water. having a fun time listening to the loons out there.
Who is woodsy? Are you around here in this sobo cluster, or what?
I'm taking a few days off in stratton with warraghiyagey, andrew, niel, shawn, hot persuit, teapot, txiw, bluefiregasm, big al, prancer, thorny, and a handful of NOBOs (forgot all their names... too much beer was involved last night).
Stratton is a great little burg. Get the rubarb pie!

Sorry Tom, meant to say Hi Don(Warraghiyagey) Not the greatest with names at first.
Not a SOBO, just out and about the ME AT. Never know where I'll pop up.
Enjoy

Woodsy, you had right. Don and Warraghiyagey are one and the same. Tom Scanlan was also at Pierce Pond on my 2nd night there. It was interesting to meet a fellow WBer in the middle of nowhere with fishing gear in tow enjoying the beauty of Peirce Pond. Woodsy is a righteous dude.
Had breakfast at Harrison's twice (just a short blue blaze from the lean-to).
This year has been fantastic for meeting hikers. The SOBOs are all the most excellent people and the NOBOs have been an honor to meet.
Such good folk as the GROOVASAURUS, Guthook, and Fedex, Whateva (I mean Whateverr :D ), and their great group who certainly all warrant having their names remembered (shame on me) but I do remember their faces and spirits and congrats to them as they should all be on Katahdin by Friday or Saturday having lived the dream.
The trail south has been what I had always dreamed - meeting people that you would always have chosen as friends.
The SOBOs also include Grey Goose and Yellow Bird, Rambo and Dreamer, and WB's Ryan207 who's trail name is Hot Pursuit and his friend Twix who may be the greatest mix of cool and funny that I've ever met.
Looking forward to many days ahead hiking amongst the great SOBOs I've already met and meeting the ones to come - as well as a very friendly NOBO showing.
God it's great to be on the trail. Peace to all until Andover.:)
I'm out from Sue's at the Stratton Motel - a great place to chill and if you're lucky enough, hear some of her myriad of tales of the woods.
Peace

Excellent! Glad to hear your hike is going well. :) Can't wait to hear more. You should really start to be getting into the thick of NOBO's real soon.
You should really start to be getting into the thick of NOBO's real soon. He's certainly getting into the thick of Maine's western mountains by now. Vertical baby....vertical.!
