it's great. i never treat it
There is water in abundance especially with all the thunderstorms we have been having of late!
As for the Mt Washington area..
you can fill your water bottles for free with good safe water at Lakes of Clouds Hut (south of peak) and at Madison Hut (north of Washington) You can also get water, or even snacks and hot drinks, on the summit of Mt Washington. In fact..every AMC hut you go by you can get water. EVery camp site is near a water source unless you choose to illegally stealth camp. Then you are on your own.

thanks so much!
Like most of the AT, there is no water along the ridges. And that includes the sections in NH that are above treeline.
And, although water is available at the huts, Mt Wahington summit, and established camp sites, don't expect to find water say between the summit and Madison unless you go off the ridge (and AT) and down.

I hike there every summer and the water is very good. There is a reliable spring between Adams and Jefferson just off the Gulfside trail and a spring near Eisenhower on the AT as it skirts the summit. I only filter water in the White's if I am near a road.. never had any problems.
