(re: poles)

The Swissgear's? They're ok for $14. Make sure you get ones that don't fall apart at the seams when you try to adjust them. I had to trade in twice, I think they just restock the bad ones.

I've got the Swissgear red poles that I got at Walmart for $20 for both. Either these are something different for $14.95ea, or its that price for two if they're the same thing. I haven't owned Leki's, but I've had these for a little over a year now and they've held up just fine. Seen a lot of them on the trail, too. At that price, you could keep a spare pair in a mail drop hopper box.

My Swiss Gear's have over 2000 miles on them and still counting.

Take the liner, it will be cold in Geogia at the beginning of Feb. I would make sure I took good rain protection and extra clothes for dry campwear too... Swiss poles work OK, a little heavy though.

Be prepared for temps down near 0*. And be prepared for being alone for long periods of time. Those were the 2 complaints, cold and lonliness, from people who started out in early feb. according to their trail journals. Good luck.
