The speed, race and team packs are all quite similar. Just differ in pocket layout, size and a couple of minor strap configurations.

I use the Golite speed and I am pretty happy with it. There are some do dads that most hikers can do without that will shave a few ounces off of it. I was apprehensive abouth the lack of hip belt padding but I never really noticed a problem in use. One thing I would reccommend is if you use a bladder for water is to not use the platypus bladder that comes with it - yes it is light but the zip top will open on you when you least expect it.

I never had a problem with my platty opening. In fact the platty was so easy to fill while still in the pack I found it one of the big plus' of the pack. Hammock Hanger

The Platypus Big Zip gave me a lot of problems also, fortunately only with my daypack. I much prefer the CamelBak screwtop.

Isn't that funny... It was my big mouth Camelback that leaked like hell. HH

They all leaked on me. Lately, I've been using the Nalgene Cantene with good luck. But they are inconvienent with the way the top goes on. The lastest item I've been trying out is the Nalgene bladder. I guess they are new on the market, I won mine at the South Florida Trails Asscciation Conference. I've only used it a couple days, but so far no leaks. Plus, they have a quick disconnect for the hose, which I find useful. Be interesting to see if it lasts.

Funny, how a golite backpacking thread got turned into a bladder thread.

HH - I do have an Omega reservoir that leaks if not closed just so. It is one of three I own so I just relegated it to my cycling pack. My Platypus opened on me when I leaned back against a tree and good thing for me that I had everything in a garbage bag pack liner. It only happened once but it was enough to shake my confidence. I just used my Speed pack again last week when my Wife and I hiked Cerro Chirripo in Costa Rica. The pack worked great even when I stripped it down to use as a daypack to hike to the summit ( a bit floppy but not uncomfortable). The pack isn't for everyone though - I bought one for my Wife prior to our trip and she didn't like it at all. She is a dyed in the wool external frame pack person and she decided to go with her old Kelty pack instead.
