I was searching around for a new silk liner and came across what are refered to as Jag Bags, http://www.jagbags.co.nz/products.htm , and was curious if anyone has gotten a chance to use one or might know how well they hold up with extensive use.
Great product, great company.
Very reasonably priced, and it includes shipping.
Jagbags sent follow-up e-mails after I ordered. The bag arrived from New Zealand in just over a week.
I purchased the rectangular liner even though I have a mummy bag.
It's 4.5 oz. and packs up into its own little bag. Smaller than a hard roll.
It goes on every winter trip and every summer trip.
If you use a quilt in warm weather, as I do, the liner is the perfect surface between you and your pad.
I hear only good things about the Jagbag company.

I talked to a service person there and told them exactly what I needed. They have no issues about changes you might want.
Helpful, interested, sell you what you want type of folks.
Timely too.

Prices look great compared to what I paid 2 years ago for a plain-jane rectangular silk liner. I don't know that there'll really be that much difference in the end product, but the prices and willingness to tailor to suit speak highly of the company. I love my liner; if I ever need to replace it I'll definitely consider these folks. Thanks for the link!

I used one on my '03 thruhike. Loved it.
It kept the inside of the down bag free of general grime and oils, and washed up well on the Gentle cycle (don't put it in the dryer though - will damage silk).
I used it as a summer bag on hot night to keep the skeeters off in NJ.

Jag Bags are great. I used one on 900 miles of the PCT, and it is still in really good condition. It will probably come with me on my AT hike.
I've only had good experiences (and heard about good experiences) with the company and their product.
i have a question... ive never seen or used a jag bag, is it a "bag" or is it just a single sheet that you lay on-top of? Do they hold in heat at all? Im guessing since its silk it does slightly... Im just trying to figure out if its worth bringing with me on my thru-hike in 09...
I have a mummy model in the heavy weight silk, which looks like someone on an acid trip who was into purples dyed. It is a quality product and good company, but liners don't work for me. I've had more success getting out of straight jackets, than getting untwisted from a liner in the middle of the night.

I used mine extensively on two long-distance hikes, and wouldn't be without it.
It gives me another layering opportunity, an extra layer of warmth, and a summer options. Basically, the bag gave me alot of options. I tossed and turned alot when my hips got to hurting, and the bag may have twisted, I just don't recall a tangling situation, or else I didn't pay attention to it enough to remember. I DO remember feeling confined by my mummy bag (WM Versalite) when I first started using it, but don't recall the same for the Jag bag.
It didn't work out so well with my hammock though - THAT was a complete straight-jacket situation.
Oh, and to add to the "care" notes - silk is a very strong natual fiber, but it degrades in intense sun, so don't hang it on a clothesline all day in summer

I loved the versalitily of having options, and the Jagbag did that for me.
Excellent product, double use as a sarong at laundry facilitys, all around valuable lightweight addition to my pack. :)

Hey Smile, as an aside, cool icon - the birds in the pic form a smiley face!
Is that photoshopped?
To put this back on topic, I sometimes carry my Jagbag when traveling - as far as linens go, it's a known quantity.

Jan ...did you really notice that big of a difference in terms of warmth with the silk liner ?? I started off with one in 2003 (Cocoon brand) and I couldn't see that it was making a noticeable difference in warmth, plus the danged thing kept on getting all twisted inside my bag. I ended up sending it home. Still have it though. Maybe I should give it another try ?

Thanks Jan, actually no, not that I can see and I blew it way up to check it out. A friend sent it to me, I had to make it so much smaller, glad you could see what it was!
By the way, JagBags can also be used as a towel, not real absorbent, but I did use mine several times for this, and it dried quickly and doubled as a moomoo for getting to a shower. Moomoo, sarong, whichever.;)

Gotta question...
What is endura silk? I get the relation between endura and endurance and all that. What I am asking is what is the difference between Endura and regular silk?
Just from looking at their ad, it's the weight of the silk.

I use a silk liner in my bag that I bought from the New Zealand Nature Company. The link is here: www.nznature.co.nz (http://www.nznature.co.nz)
It is a nice sheet, as well as something to slide into when it gets cold.
