I'll be there. Looking forward very much to meeting some of next year's hikers; also to Jester's tour of the battlefield which should be educational and ridiculous.

Haven't missed a Gathering in years; I certainly won't when it's going to be held practically in my back yard. :p

It might be more helpful to ask who ISN'T going to be there, especially now that we know that Walkin' Jim will be performing his magical concert extravaganza.--Kinnickinic

Sorry to say we are going to have to miss the Gathering this year. Smokestack and I will be going to Europe for three weeks to greet my son returning from Iraq.
Look forward to seeing some of you on the trail next spring as we pick up in Harpers Ferry. Smokestack tried a thruhike this year but broke his foot near Daleville, VA. Still recovering.

I posted this to a couple of other groups, so forgive, please, if reading it brings on deja vu:
It is my understanding that we have a field reserved at the college where we can set up our tents. I don't know what the arrangements are about showers or privies, but it does seem to me that we would not be allowed to set up housekeeping in that field without at least portapotties. It would be great if announcements about this would be sent out to our various groups multiple times so that all of us, even those who are out hiking now, would have an opportunity to get the straight of it.
I think, emphasis THINK, that the drumming will take place at that field.
Then there are the motels, which, if you research it, are mostly multi-storied hotels. Darn nice ones too, but pretty expensive on the whole. Most near the campus are already sold out at least until cancellations start coming in.
There is, of course, Caledonia State Park and the motel at Fayetteville. They are farther away but, I think, less expensive.
You all know all of this, so why am I going on and on? Well, I have my old Woodall's Campground Directory. As I indicated, it's kind of old. In fact, if it were a child, it would be entering kindergarten this September.`Still, what was true for 2002 could be helpful in finding something in 2007.
Artillery Ridge Camping Resort has 3 out of 5 possible stars for its facilities (read shower and restrooms). They have a place for your horse too if you want to bring him/her. Their number is (717)334-1288.
Drummer Boy Camping Resort gets a 5 for its facilities. Its number is 1-800-293-2808. I'm told that it is 2.5 miles from the college.
Gettysburg Campground has 4 stars for its facilities. Its telephone is (717)334-3304.
ATTN LW: Granite Hill Campground (and Adventure Golf) has 4 stars for facilities. The golf course has 18 holes. 1-800-642-TENT.
The KOA has 4 stars for its facilities. Its number is 1-800-KOA-1869.
Finally, there is Round Top Campground, also with 4 stars for its facilities.
(717)334-9565.
Again, this is an old directory. There may be additional campgrounds now. Phone numbers could have changed. My eyes may have missed one of them. Those are my caveats.
The main reason I decided to post this is that, after I made my reservation, I called the campground I'd chosen to ask to be placed in a more private spot. (By then I had their map.) They told me that they had no more sites left. It seems that we are a part of an even greater event--fall colors.

I so wanted to be there but unfortunately I can't make it :(

I'll be there and can't wait, probably a day or two early so I can spend some tine walking the battlefield. The Gathering will be the BEST hiker get together of the year as usual.
I really hope and pray that drums aren't allowed as is the Gathering tradition and the Billville rule.
I hope I'll be able to go. I have school and work, but I'll try and swindle my way out of it.;)
Hopefully, I will make it. Depends on how much we slow down at work between now and then.

There is a new saying, a new feeling, a new attitude....
it is no longer called Hike Your Own Hike,
it's called....
"Live Each Day Like You Mean It"
Should you attend the Gathering, you will see what I'm talking about :D
Right Kinnickinic ?

It lightens your pack. It broadens your horizons. It brings music to your ears and amazing sights to your eyes. Old friends, new friends, who could ask for more?--Kinnickinic
Will be there. Broke the news to my boss this morning, "It's hiking season and I can't be here much in Oct or Nov."...don't think he took it very well. I'm either really good help or I'm working way too danged cheap.:p
Me and the "Rabbit" will be hiking afterwards with St Pete Sue to get her out of PA and into NJ, then down to fill in a section of the BMT for Rabbit.

No eliteism, its just that post #18 lists about 10 different possible places to stay. I think it would be more fun if we camped all together.

There is an official site for ALDHA. It's in a field about 3 miles north of town. All of the other options were given so that people have, um, options.
. . .It lightens your pack. It broadens your horizons. It brings music to your ears and amazing sights to your eyes. . .
. . .it makes you regular! It brightens the days and lengthens the nights! It makes you two inches taller! And the snozzberries taste like snozzberries!
Looks like I'll be there. I mailed my registration to ALDHA yesterday. Can't wait. I'll be camping, I hope there's gonna be a place to poop and shower (not in the same place).
I hope to get there Thursday...There better be a spot for me. :banana

There will be a place to poop. As for the showering, I know that won't be available at the campground. I'm not sure if the coordinators have arranged anything with the college or not. Of course, if it rains like it did two years ago, you won't need a shower.
By the by, for the benefit of everyone else, the Magna Screen is pretty cool.

Hello friends,
You DO NOT have to pre-register for the Gathering. You can register at the event, many folks to help you.
ALDHA (http://www.aldha.org/index.htm) welcomes everyone!
You DO NOT have to be an ALDHA (http://www.aldha.org/index.htm) member to attend the Gathering. We have hikers (mostly sobo's) that will hike in from the Trail because they've only heard of the Gathering....I love when this happens.
ALDHA (http://www.aldha.org/index.htm) welcomes hikers, dreamers, families and friends.
Love to all.
Looking forward to it! Sounds like a lot of folks are coming from the north and the south...meeting at gettysburg. A(n) historical gathering!
