aaroniguana 08-23-2007, 05:36 Mutter Museum of Medical Oddities. I never miss that one when I'm in Philly. Of course I also never miss a trip to my friend's tattoo parlor in Hatboro or stop in The Trestle either so there's no accounting for taste...

Or...you could all come to "La Casa de Camo". :-?
(My rambling estate)
Jester and Matthewski (et al) have both been here, and I'll actually be home this weekend.
(Don't assign me a date, though; I've already got one... :D )
I'm picturing the philly hikers in the Mutter Museum.....man, I wish I was going to be there. Who do you think will be the first one to kicked out for trying to turn the into lung into a stove?

Mother's Finest 08-23-2007, 15:13 Aren't the Mutters the guys in Philly that dress up all funny and parade on New Years Day?
yes,
they preserve their bodies the same way the cadavers are preserved in the Mutter Museum......lots and lots of booze.
name the date and time when prepared and if I have the freedom I will be there.

Jack Tarlin 08-24-2007, 02:57 Geez, I just Googled "Mutter Museum" just for the hell of it to see what you guys are talking about.
The "Roadside America" article on the Mutter is particularly inspiring, what with the glossy photos of Mutter treasures such as The Big Colon and The Soap Woman. Also, any place that has John Wilkes Booth's thorax on display as well as Grover Cleveland's tumor has to be worth a visit, never mind Chevalier Jackson's personal collection of over 2,000 swallowed objects retrieved without resorting to surgery.
In short, I think this place is on the list the next time I'm in Philadelphia, and going there with Matthewski and Jester as tour guides would probably be a life-altering experience.
See, when I was a kid, we were taken frequently to the Museum of Fine Arts or one of the Harvard galleries. Jester and Matty got field trips to the Mutter. We got Old Ironsides and the Old North Church. Those guys got the Soap Woman and The Big Colon.
This explains a lot.

I haven't been there in decades, but it's definitely a unique place. They've also got the (shared) liver of the original Siamese (P.C.=conjoined) Twins, Chang and Eng.
Johnny Thunder 08-24-2007, 07:59 Jester has a cockeyed view of what "fun" truely is. See:
But, this is the sort of behavior that could make you mayor of some small hamlet in Ohio. A true Bill-"villain" if I've ever seen one.
Johnny
I won't come to the party if I can't dance.
Johnny Thunder 08-24-2007, 08:02 I believe it went down like this...
Click
"This is really going to come back to haunt me, isn't it?" - Jester
"I do believe so, yes." - Johnny
Did you see the look on the dog's face? This should be reported to the authorities. Its just wrong. :D

Hmmm. Yep, pretty much just like that. But I would like to note that you didn't post any photos of the lovely dinner I treated that dog to beforehand.
aaroniguana 08-24-2007, 20:52 Note to self: Leave dog at home...
I always schedule an extra day in Philly for the Mutter. My alternate breadwinner has some odd fascination with conjoined twins.
Better not to ask, just accept these things...
Jack Tarlin 08-24-2007, 20:55 It doesn't look like I'll be making this little soiree, but I sure look forward to visiting this museum the next time I'm in Philly, and it better be Matty and Jester who act as tour guides. Along with them, I sure hope Jester brings along his absolutely delightful Mutter, who would also enjoy the place.

Man...ouch. You OK, buddy? I told you guys that we could hold the festivities at "La Casa de Camo", my rambling estate in the Philly 'burbs. You can pitch a tent on the grounds if you wish, and imbibe to your heart's content.
Besides, I could use some more help with my yacht (http://mycyberbuddy.com/conchcruisers/photos2005/TiggerToo/IM000257.jpg)... :p

Y'all need to have a pre-Gathering or after-Gathering before or after the Gathering for us homeless.
Jesters Mom 08-27-2007, 14:35 Jack: Looks like I'm one of the very few people on this thread who actually has been to the Mutter Museum - for a wedding no less - don't know what that says about my friends!
A wedding at the mutter????
Shoot, I thought that it was sick humor when my mom brought me there, trying to make a trip to my surgen "fun" We just kept pointing out all the spots they were reserving for my freakish legs. Oddly enough........
I have one of the rare privlidges of being alive and having part of me at the mutter. I don't know why, but after signing a "educational use" contract, the cores of bone that were extracted during my transplant were put there. Yep, part of my ankle is sitting in some random drwer or cabinet at the mutter! I don't know how to feel about being a "medical oddity"

Now I have a good reason to visit Philly besides Matty and the Philly Cheesesteaks.:banana Wonder, I knew there was something about you.
Yep.....now, if you look really hard....and figure out what my "sample #" is...you can see a peice of my talus. Let me know if you find it......I haven't been able to. They won't put my name on it until I die

May they not put your name on it for a long time then, sweetness. :o
Thanks :-) Let's hope not....
mweinstone 09-03-2007, 07:53 how bout a group nap. we'll just meet, and crash for 8 solid hours thereby avoiding the after trail event loss of sleep overdrunk mode. then the next time we meet we can spend energy doing stuff. trail events are hard work. fun is hard these days. ya have to go far and stay up late and not pee enough on long rides. how bout a napcation?!
