Rather than waiting for a pickup where the trail coming north crosses the RR tracks in Dalton, the coffee shop mentioned in the resupply #4 article sounds like a nicer place to meet the wife. Anyone know the name and address? thanks, Mark S.

Duff & Dell's is more of a luncheonette, it's on Depot Street, downtown, right on the trail. Good food.

I'll second the part about good food. My wife and I stopped in for lunch on our section hike in New England in August. We were there about noon and it was quite busy both with locals and hikers.

Another alternative would be to wait at Trail Angel Tom Levardi's house, which I think is at 83 Depot St., right down the block. There's a picnic table on the lawn, or you could hang on the porch. Tom would be delighted to entertain you; this spot would also work if the cafe was closed.

I went through there last summer and in the same business row was a breakfast place and also another place for pizza, dinner, and beer. Can't remember which was D&D. It's just up the block from Tom Levardi's house. This coming weekend I'll be driving through there after picking up an ex-service buddy down in Otis, Mass and we will be heading up to southern Vt to spend a couple of days in the Lye Brook Wilderness and Bromley area. Plan to stop and thank Tom for the great hospitality he showed myself and my son, as well as about a dozen others last July.
