I am looking for a good vitamin & supplement regiment for myself, beginning section hiker. If not already on one.
Currently I am on:
a basic Multi Vitamin (usually daily)
Vitamin C (during the winter & when I feel under the weather)
Vitamin B (for Metabolism boost)
Garlic (cholesteral)
Melatonin (for sleep control)
Calcium. Magnesium, & Zinc (for lack of drinking milk/Bone & Muscle health)

Doesn't your multi-vit contain those other ingredients? I take OneADay right now, it has all those things. Except the melatonin. For that I get plenty of exercise. ;)

Be careful with melatonin. It's actually a hormone, not a vitamin or mineral, that by a quirk, is not regulated by the FDA. It affects the hypothalamus among other things known and unknown. Your body makes minute quantities and supplements contain many times that amount. Unless you actually have a problem with melatonin production, it would be best not to take it. It's not like vitamin C or calcium. In fact, a good multivitamin is all most people need. If they even need that. A lot of claims for these substances, such as vitamin C preventing colds, is not scientifically supported.

I've taken melatonin for years with no problems. It is great for much more than just sleep. Potent antioxidant for sure. Not being regulated by the FDA means squat. The FDA and drug companies are in bed together. Unless they make melatonin a prescription drug, they are not interested. Tons and tons of scientific studies show many supplements work.

If you need a regiment to help you with the trail, I suggest asking Sgt. Rock, who can probably recommend one. My understanding is that most regiments were either in, going to or coming back from Iraq, but there may be a few available. Perhaps there's one at Ranger School in GA that could help.:D

My multi does carry those vitamins but not in strong amounts. My pharmacist suggested taking extra Vitamin B for a metabolism boost, any extra B will be peed out. Take extra Vitamin C because I usually get sinus infections about every 2 months, never had one since starting it up. And take extra calcium because I am not a breakfast/milk person.
Is the rumor about Fish oil leaving a weird taste and bad breath true?

I like Jack Daniels.....it seems to make the other things not really matter!!
Just kidding...I take a multi vitamin and extra vitamin B. My dad takes fish oil. He says it's like burbing ocean water all day!
