I really wouldn't buy a used Precip. They don't keep you dry when they're new, much less after they've been used a few times.
Spraying them with waterproofing only helps a little.
thats funny, i have owned two and they work great.

It's a jacket that people either love or hate. I wonder if they manufacture them in different locations? Some swear by them, some swear at them.
My husband and I bought two for our CDT hike last year. The third time I wore it, I was soaked through in a very light rain. His was only little better. They never kept us dry for more than a few minutes. We've both gotten hypothermic wearing them in a light drizzle.
I was really disappointed because I'd read good reviews before we bought them. Since then, I've read more than one person who agreed that they don't keep you dry.

Spirit Walker seeing as the Marmot didn't work out for you and your husband, what did you two settle on for a rain jacket?

I was dry in my precip and it's four years old. The only time I got soaked was from my own sweat. The interior can feel wet from clamminess even when it's dry. Nothing keeps you dry when you're hiking in it. But for hypothermic conditions in rain and wind or for around camp, it works good.

I have a lightly used large Precip in Green. It's a 2006 model and it was never really worn on the trail, just around town. Make me an offer. I also have large never worn full-zip Precip pants if you're interested in those.

not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know where you find FrogToggs? I know people that swear by them. You might consider something like that. I've never heard anyone say they didn't work before.
pretty much everyone sells them, dicks has them i know that for sure.
If you are looking at froggtoggs you might also look at DriDucks from Backpacking Light. They are similar, buy only $15 per set for members. FroggToggs can be found at Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, and many other sporting goods stores.

My son got his at Gander Mountain. He didn't wear it much though. And the pants ripped very easily. He loves his Go lite umbrella.
