What is your recomended length for a structural ridge line for a DIY hammock that is made from a pc of 120" X 60" material? I currently am using a webbing that is 96" from lark's head to lark's head. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The hammock is gathered speer style but the material is cut slightly asym...

I've never had occasion to make a hammock, but I've heard that 110" is about ideal. The neat thing though, is that you can adjust yours to give you the best comfort. I would take the opportunity to start long and tie it progressively shorter until you find the sweet spot. Then, tie it permanent.

Moonpie, I have played with anywhere from 75-90% off material length, personally I like 80% but I am not a big fan of the ridgeline to begin with. I really don't like how close the ridgeline is to my face.

Use some form of attachment in the middle so you can disconnect the ridgeline when you just want a lounger. This also allows you to 'play' with the length unitl you get it right. txulrich called it: start long and just keep shortening the length in increments unitl it feels right for you; done.

Sleep in your new hammock. Adjust the slack until you like it.
several nights would be best.

have someone measure it while you are in it and "In the position".

That is your optimum ridge line length.
