Anybody know the profile for the Great Eastern & Alabama Pinhoi Trails through Alabama? How much is it actual foot trail to roadside?

I got family and friends in Jasper and Birmingham, whats the closest locations to hit those trails?

I hiked the Pinhoti back in 2000. The profile is not too demanding but it isn't a cake walk either. The closest trail head to B-ham is south of Talledega on AL 148 (that is new since I hiked it, the end used to be on AL 77). You can get the APT in Google Earth and look it up since there is an APT KMZ available.

Approximately 200 miles of road walking exists between the Florida Trail and Flag Mountain. That's mostly flat. A bit of road walking exists between Flag and the southern terminus of the Alabama Pinhoti. Then you're on trail for about 140 miles to the Georgia border.

The only maps available for the Pinhoti in Alabama are from the Forest Service. Shoot me an email if you want more info. Hammock Hanger walked it last year, so you can visit her journal on Trail Journals, or shoot her a PM.

Mr. Parkay, congrats on finishing the PCT. It seems they are running into some rough weather right now.

Hey, Thanks Ewker! Yeah, I made it into Canada just a day or two before weather got real bad. Hope everyone is safe back on the trail!
