Hi,
I am going to be doing a section hike starting in Cascade MD going south to Harper's Ferry and need some help.
First day I will be starting late and plan to spend the night at Devil's Racecourse shetler. The second day I want to go to the Rocky Run Shelter area. The shelter is being renovated and I have also heard the Dahlgren campground is neardy. Thoughts? Should we push on to Rocky Run or just stay at Dahlgrens?
Thanks for the help!
Dahlgren is nice, has a bathroom and shower and a good place to stay. It is then spaced well to go all the way to Ed Garvey Shelter which is another nice one. If you want shorter days, Compton Gap is convenient as well. Have fun

A week ago (5 OCT) there was no water at Garvey shelter.... no water at compton gap either. However there is good water from a pump at Gapland 0.4 miles from the shelter at Compton gap via an easy woods road..... The AT also crosses this water 0.5 miles south of the blue blaze to the shelter...Nice bathroom at Gapland also.
Have a nice hike....plan water carefully.

I was up there this past weekend. I stayed at Dahlgren friday night and Crampton Gap saturday night. I think they shut down the bathrooms and showers at Dahlgren sometime in November. I also think they have a pump near the campgrounds. I heard the spring is flowing at rocky run(didn't stop there). I filled up my water at Gapland which also has a couple soda machines nearby.
