In Cornwall, CT they have the Cornwall Wave, which is waving your hand in front of your face so you can say Hi without the bugs flying in your mouth.

This should be a great time! Don't be too concerned about bugs. There may be a buggy stretch or two (south west Mass!!!!!) but by the time you get to northern Maine the worst of the bugs should be past!

I agree..bring a tent or tarp. But also bring a good digital or film camera..the scenery in New England is particularly special!!
