Has anyone resupplied or stayed in Peekskill?

The town obviously has lots of services, but it is sprawling and it looks tough to get around on foot.

A useful town for hikers that want to go into New York City. There's a commuter rail station to/from the city. I used the train and stopped at Peekskill on the way home from my 2006 section hike. Beyond that, I dunno...

I've stayed there once, camping at the Park.

The town is friendly enough, but it's not the easiest hitch from the Trail or back again, and the Park where they let you stay is a ways from the center of town.

I doubt I'll be back.

You've got that right. I got on there twice from the train station. Never did get a ride and had to walk the whole way. Once even prior to 9/11, when all hitchhikers were not considered automatic terrorists.

The road into town is not the best to walk along at times not much of a sholder. Also as far as wandering town it's not the most foot friendly.

To section-hike from Bear Mt. to Pawling/Rt. 22, I took a bus Pawling-to Poughkeepsie, train to Peekskill, and cab to Bear Mountain. Didn't look like a hitchiking-conducive area.

First let me state that this is MY opinion.

My sister lived in Peekskill for a few years and when I visited I found the people to be very snooty, nose in the air, always better than you attitude.
OTOH, they also had the attitude that OUR town is close to the Appalachian Trail (very proud) BUT we can't be bothered with those bum trail hikers...that may be why the hitch is so difficult.
ie: Oh look, theres another Appalachian Trail hiker...don't look as we drive past.

When I picked up my bounce box in Peekskill in 06 I also had a tough hitch and wound up walking most of the way but of course U don't look like me so maybe you'll have better luck.

That road is referred to as the "goat path" for good reason.
