View Full Version : Hammock+Huge tree+Climbing gear
I set my hammock up in a tree in my backyard, 45 feet up in the tree. And I just finished sleeping in it for the second time. Heres a couple pictures:

I get in it by ascending the rope with prusick loops. Once I'm in the hammock, I tie into the rope, and back it up with a loop of webbing.
I haven't fallen out of it yet, except on purpose to "test" the anchors:rolleyes:
Has anyone else set their hammock up in any really cool places?
Must be you are in bear country:confused: I thought food is suppose to go hi am i missing something or is man the food

Wow! Most excellent! Great for Griz country. Don't guess it would help much in black bear country, since they are such climbers.
Now, we need you to give us a tutorial on how to use climbing gear to attach to rocks and cliff faces above timberline, or anywhere else where there are few trees and lots of large rocks.
Someone has way too much time on his hands.:-?
Fatman,
He's 16 - supposed to have time on his hands for this type stuff. Sure beats playin video games or "hangin out" in the usual sense. :-)
Congratulations Erick. See you plan a 08 thru - Best of luck with that too! Keep on pushing the norms (within reason) you will never regret it.
I have lots of room in the tree if anyone wants to come join me :)

You should rake up a pile of leaves underneath just in case.
Personally I'd rake up a pile about forty feet high.

I think I would wear a deer hunting safety harness just in case. What if some furry creature chews through your hanging rope while sleeping ? The newer harnesses give support around each leg and both arms whereas in the old days, it was just a strap around the waist. If you fell , it would about rip you in half. Good luck on your thru and enjoy the hangin" ;)

No worries, I wear a rock climbing harness. Thanks for your concern though:D

Looks pretty nice! I am curious to any comments that Mom and/or Dad had about the rig...

Just curious.... Do you plan on hanging that thing directly over the privies on the Trail? I hope you have good aim.:D
Seeing that we are leaving next year, I'll make it a point to wear a hard and poncho! LOL

Dad: Awesome!
Mom: No, you are not sleeping up there!
I explain my safety set up, etc.
Mom: Well not tonight, its a school night. (Just delaying the inevitable)
She still makes sure I'm being safe, but shes pretty cool about it now.

I would like more details on how you did everything, like how you are tying off to the trees, etc. There is a fellow over on hammock forums asking about how to do the same as you have there.
