No.... but thats what accountants are for!
My clothes/shoes are packed, my gear for yard sale is packed. I have a just a few of the food items to pick up and saving the cooking for Thursday. I have obligations Friday morning, and a 6 hour drive to NOC. I cant afford to be doing this stuff 'last minute' this time!
but I have made 'to-do' lists for everything so as not to forget anything!
You're putting me to shame, Lady.
(Didn't you make alcohol stoves a long time ago? I think back in '02 I bought 2 from you, found out about you on the AT-L ? I still have mine.)
Not me. Dang, how many Tin Men are there?
Nahhhh.

Ah, StarLyte, you should know George aka Tinman, the guy that makes and sells stoves, he's the treasurer for ALDHA! You know that Org you're membership secretary of!

A work in progress but most likely after the presentations on Saturday afternoon, before dinner, you'll be able to display your gear in Kleinrath Hall.
That will allow a couple hours to swap, sell etc.
I've been back and forth with Cuffs on this trying for the best solution. We also have the raffle, where I think, winners will be picked after dinner, just before the PM activities.

Looking hard at the spreadsheet to find something I can bring (from Florida, unrefrigerated, and not needing cooking) for lunch and/or dinner Saturday. Do we need catsup, mustard, pickles for lunch sandwiches? Grated romano for dinner? Another dessert for either? What about any of those? or do you see gaps anywhere else? Please help! :-O

Tin Can Stove Man was mentioned in a trail journal I read a long time ago. He was the one that made stoves for people as he hiked up the trail. I'm thinking this was back in the '80's, before alcohol stoves were common on the trail. I may have the years wrong, but I'm pretty sure alky stoves were a new idea on the trail when he was making them.
I have a stove made by him, but haven't used it yet.

First time to SORUCK, I need suggestions,
Dough Nut
Sweet potato mash. :bananaYeah.....um......I don't think that's gonna work. I really dislike sweet potatoes in any form. I'm pretty sure I'll find something to bring, maybe some of my world-famous roasted red bell pepper and bean dip. Yum! Oh well, I've got til Friday morning. No rush.

Rearly packed :D - I resemble that remark.
I'm unpacking from the Atlanta trip and repacking for SORUCK - and I just put two gallons of FD's skinny vegan veggie soup and a gallon of FD's meatballs with sauce in the freezer. I'll be bring those in my big cooler so they won't take up the limited fridge space at the ruck.
No Papaw Dino this time - he is afraid to leave his 91 yo sister for that long. She still lives alone, but he goes and does things like bring in her mail, change light bulbs, do yard work and such --- their love for each other is a tribute the values instilled by my grandparents - a wonderful pair that reminded me if the missing Bryants.

Added: Found the correct ext. For 2008 they don't open until April. I'll call in the morning and see if they can open for limited hours next weekend, or ateast let us watch the Super Bowl on TV.
PS I can play DVD's with the digital projector and a portable DVD player (or laptop) on the large screen in Kleinrath Hall

I am not sure,Is Cuttys real name Bob Taylor??? He is the one that called me to see if we could give sunset a ride. Unfortunately,We are having to drop our daughter off on friday, and will be staying around the NOC area after soruck to spend a few days on the trail. We could possibly take him there, but would not be able to give him a ride back?? I do have his home phone# if you have any suggestions I can pass on to him.
Could be his name. I'm pretty sure when I recently talked to Sunset, his man Cutty was going to give him a ride.
drinking decaf coffee is like drinking treated/filtered mountain water or hiking with lekis.
And like drinking Busch light :)

Well, Ladies and Gentlemen, it's lookin like we're going to get a few inches of snow tomorrow at SoRuck. Yay! Sounds like a recipe for snowball fights after the day hike. :D Dunno about y'all, but I'm leaving in just a couple hours, so see ya there!

Whoopy!
Snow!
It has been at least 5 years since we had a decent snow for the SORUCK.
I've got pancake mix, blueberries and cooking tools packed. In general, we need more in the way of big spoons, turners, spatulas and such. the Bugs don't get to leave until after school. Sallie will have to come this year after having eye surgery today.
See you there!

Wow, getting late. I guess I should start packing...
Leaving around nine seeya all monyona!
If someone can pick up a bag of ice pellets (rock salt) that would be great. Last time in these conditions the stairs were treacherous. I'll get a bag too.

Don't be teaching them tech stuff now. They might get too creative with things that get ****ed up.

I thought it meant "tomorrow?"
The weather forecasts are predicting huge 3"!!! (BTW I'm being facetious) snow in Charlotte Saturday. The roads of North Carolina will be full of crazed drivers skidding around. Be careful!
I thought it meant "tomorrow?"
It can mean both things.
OK Van's all packed and I leave in half an hour. Picking up Ewker on the way and we will see you all around 2 or 3. I'm bringing a couple of spatulas, 3 serving spoons, one slotted, and a pasta spoon. I'm so excited I can hardly stay in my skin. See you soon!!!
It can mean both things.
I worked for a company with an office in Puerto Rico. Whenever we worked with them on implementing some things the response invaribly was "mañana", which we discovered really means "not today".
I always thought it was tomorrow...

Have a great time, y'all. Take it easy. Glad the weather cleared out. Looking forward to hearing all about it, and of course, seeing the pics!!
Well... I wasn't sure if I was going to go or not, but I have decided to take my chances with the snow and go. They are only calling for a few inches, so it shouldn't be so bad (I hope!) I just will regret not seeing so many wonderful people otherwise. See you all sometime tomorrow afternoon!!! :banana

There was a good time held by all that attended. I did the Saturday breakfast with great help, the Blue Blaze walk from Wesser Bald, a couple of the presentations, reconnecting with too many friends and shivered as we loaded up and headed out today.
Well done, all.
Wow, what a blast! This was my first Ruck and I had an absolute ball! First thing's first, though. I have to thank Sly and Cuffs for organizing the whole thing, it was wonderful! I have to say how nice it was to meet so many of the people from White Blaze that I have seen post here. It was, as always, great to see Marta, the Dinos, Peanuts, SGT Rock, Dixicritter, Dead Man Walking, and Creek Hopper. Funny not seeing you guys in Hot Springs at a Hangout, but always nice to see you nonetheless! And of course, all the new folsk I met for the first time, L. Wolf, Hog on Ice, Wonder, Belew, Miss Janet, Ron Haven, 1 Pint, Gung Ho, Roots, Smile, Ewker, Cuffs, Trillium, Tin Man (The Anti-Gravity Gear homeboy), and everyone else I met this past weekend. I have to give a special thanks to Dawg and Tanasi for hiking with me on the wondeful day hikle we had down the White Blazes! You guys rock! I'd hike with you anytime!! :D Let me know when you guys want to go again! Our day hike started out pretty cold and then got snowy a little way past Wesser Blad Shelter. What a beautiful day to hike on, the snow was just gorgeous! Oh and you can't forget the kitchen folks, you guys prepared some great chow and it was absolutely delicious! Thanks so much for feeding us all weekend long! I can't wait to do it again next year. Hopefully, I can drag Doc along next time! :p

Of course, you weren't, sorry we missed you. On a more positive note, congrats on finishing your thru! Way to go, I'm totally jealous! Thanks for the trout, they were delicious. I saw the pics of them on your TJ. Hope to catch you soon somewhere!
Hello all fellow white blazers, I too had a great time meeting each and everyone of you that attended this years Ruck. This was my first Thru-Ruck(have to give you props for that Dances with Mice, that was classic)I also want to thank everyone for making me feel like part of your family and that is what it felt like this weekend. The fellowship, the shared journeys, the wisdom, the generosity, the late nights talking about hiking strategies(that is what happens in Cabin C in case anyone wants to know) that each of you extended to myself was awesome. I could list 50 to 60 names, but I you each know who you are. I cannot wait to meet many more of you in upcoming events, as well as continuing the journey with the ones that were there. Everyone please keep in touch and hopefully I will see you on the trail:sun

Atlanta being completly lazy. I finished up last night. If I would have the money I would have hiked north or kept hiking south. 6 months and 1 week was way too fast of a hike.

Tell you what: I'll try that again - I should have scrubbed the text. I know better than that...
I, too, really enjoyed attending the RUCK. It was my first one since going to the PA RUCK in ’03. It’s always great to see all the faces of the Trail, catch up with friends, and be inspired by others’ adventures and images from so many beautiful long trails.
Thanks to Sly for organizing such a warm event, which was a great contrast to the cold temperatures. I was glad I had the opportunity to share some information with folks on the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and the work we’re doing.
There were a couple of things I meant to mention that slipped off my list:
I mentioned our Trail to Every Classroom (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/ttec)program that Julie in our office works on. She is seeking educators from Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee to make up the team from the South. People who are interested should contact her at 828-254-3708.
I mentioned our crews and volunteer opportunities, and while I distributed some other items, I failed to circulate our crew applications. They can be found online here: www.appalachiantrail.org/crews (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/crews)
Some of you may be aware that we do an A.T. Hiker Get-Together in Asheville on the second Tuesday of every month at Jack of the Wood on Patton Ave. It’s informal; some weeks there are throngs of people, other times it’s quiet with just a few of us sitting around and having a drink or dinner. It’s always fun. If you want to receive a monthly reminder about it, you can PM me with your name, trail name and e-mail address and I’ll let you know (with some degree of consistency) when and where (very rarely we re-locate temporarily).
Thanks to everyone who purchased raffle tickets. I know Cuffs collected $288 that was split equally between ATC and ALDHA. ATC really appreciates the $144 donation.
