Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that LLBEAN is running a good price on a Down Jacket for men & women starting out at $69. I purchased a large and took it home for the winter. It came in at 1 pound 8 ounces on a kitchen digital scale. (I compressed it and put it in a Sea to Summit bag) this way it will sit on the scale. It might be nice to fork over $300 for a ouncey Montbell Jacket - but I cannot do it. I am just too tough on gear and it wouldn't last. You might like the additional test on the jacket, I threw some water on the jacket and it did bead and roll off. There isn't any mention of DWR. But for the money and its lighter than Polartec - you cannot beat it. I found a few additional pockets on the inside and fleece ring inside the wrist area of the sleeves.The $99 longer jacket I am told comes in at two pounds. Good buy!:rolleyes:

I must chime in on the Mountain Down Jacket. $99 but it is heavy. Saying that, it is super warm at 725 down fill and super water resistant. I wore it in a straight downpour as a test just a few days ago and it shed just like a rain coat.

It does squeeze into a nalgene (done it) but it is 28 oz and sizes tight. Size up if you want to layer. A great buy, great Bean quality.

I'd keep an eye out also in January when a lot of these coats go on sale, so may find one at a lower weight and better compressability.

My Sierra Designs down jacket I got at Sierra Trading post was 1 lb. at $68 I think.

Eddie Bauer outlets have great down jacket/vest prices too. I got a 600 fill vest for like thirty bucks. havent weighed it yet but my guess is a pound plus a few ounces.

The men's and women's down jacket that was $69, is now in the outlets for $39. Limited colors for the ladies, like a light violet: not good for showing the dirt.
