And he had about 90% of his gear jam-packed into them. In other words, he didn't use pipes IN his backpack. He used PVC piping INSTEAD of a backpack. I'm not sure how far he got, but at the time I felt this was an idea whose time had not yet come. Tennessee Viking 12-04-2007, 13:51 I use some tubing and flexible PVC pipe to gather low lying water. Have it set up to just hook up to piped sources, and draw water from it. Thoughtful Owl 12-04-2007, 15:08 The only time I have ever used or heard of PVC being used in the back country was for poop tubes while hike/camping in the alpine or rock climbing on big walls. :D dessertrat 12-04-2007, 15:14 PVC is useful for making struts for homemade snow sleds/pulks. You tie the rope to the sled, then put two lengths of pvc over the rope and then attach it to the hipbelt, so that when you go down hill, the sled doesn't run you over. warraghiyagey 12-05-2007, 03:01 3' by 2 1/2" PVC glued to a 'Y' adapted down to half inch for igniter and bottom end threaded to hold in hair spray. Then insert small pumpkin or such into shaft end of device, aim high in the air away from any dwelling or person (by a few hundred yards) and push barbecue igniter button. Best use of PVC after plumbing. EWS 12-05-2007, 03:31 I'll bring the igniter, if you'll bring the hairspray, and we'll "borrow" someone's PVC framed pack. warraghiyagey 12-05-2007, 03:34 I'll bring the igniter, if you'll bring the hairspray, and we'll "borrow" someone's PVC framed pack. Borrow nuthin. We'll tell him it'll give him jet-pack capabilities.:p EWS 12-05-2007, 03:39 Borrow nuthin. We'll tell him it'll give him jet-pack capabilities.:pHell, I may want to try that. "Ya'll watch this!" warraghiyagey 12-05-2007, 03:43 Oh, and by the way, how come you get to bring the igniter and I have to bring the hair spray? Hmmm? What are you trying to say? That I might be the type of dude that has hair spray? Well let me tell you somthin mister. I dig chicks. (Especially if they have their own hair spray, gel, masca. . . oops I've said too much). :D :D EWS 12-05-2007, 03:54 Fine, I'll bring the hairspray. Just forgo the sundress; I don't want an Marilyn Monroe moments along the ridges, unless there is a definite absence of dangily bits and duct tape. warraghiyagey 12-05-2007, 03:58 Fine, I'll bring the hairspray. A kilt it is then. kayak karl 12-05-2007, 06:43 if u make a pack frame out of pvc, why not store water in it? a cap a valve! it would work. add a pump for radiant heat or cooling :} ki0eh 12-05-2007, 08:45 if u make a pack frame out of pvc, why not store water in it? a cap a valve! it would work. add a pump for radiant heat or cooling :} Not the best for heat transfer, try type K copper instead. Then if your money runs out partway through your thru you can cash in (that is, if someone hasn't beaten you to it...) dessertrat 12-05-2007, 09:48 if u make a pack frame out of pvc, why not store water in it? a cap a valve! it would work. add a pump for radiant heat or cooling :} Why not do the same with aluminum? kayak karl 12-05-2007, 09:57 Why not do the same with aluminum? this is a PVC thread not an aluminum thread :) ki0eh 12-05-2007, 10:05 this is a PVC thread not an aluminum thread :) PVC's tough to thread especially for klutzes like me. Personally I like glue especially with purple primer making a nice streak down the side. Froggy 12-05-2007, 10:39 Technically speaking, compared to aluminum, PVC has less strength for the weight and more flexibility for the weight. That is, aluminum is a considerably better engineering material for structural items. Also, PVC piping is brittle. Drop it and it might shatter - I've seen that happen. Rain Man 12-05-2007, 10:51 actualy here it is in aluminum: http://www.trailgeartradingpost.com/ A good idea that might be awful in the field, the first time that "Trail-Stik" gets bent and none of those survival tubes will slide out any more. YIKES! Said by someone whose family regularly bends (and heck, loses) Leki hiking sticks. Rain:sunMan . Pennsylvania Rose 12-05-2007, 11:06 You can make a digeree-doo (sp?) out of PVC.
