If you are really interested, they do make a collapsable sink, though I don't see myself carrying one.

Make it adjustable sizes and it could double as a rain hat.

I used to have the cut off bottom of a collapsible water jug that I used as a sink. You could use a milk jug bottom too. But I found that it wasn't worth the weight.

Now, I just use the pot as the sink. At the most, I am washing a cup, lid, pot, and spoon.

For personal washing, I use a drilled out cap on my platypus to wash up. Wet, lather, rinse. This can even be rigged as a shower if you really wanted by using an onion bag to hold the platypus.

I seriously considered adopting an alias before posting this:

I carry a cut-off gallon milk jug for bathing. Works fine, weighs practically zip. Much easier to attract sheep if you're clean.

Use your cooking pot to wash the pot and the spoon. :)

As for personal bathing, towns are usually only four to five days away. I know several liked to do it on hot summer days to get the sweat off, but I was too tired to bother, frankly. The rest of the season, it's too chilly.

I have packed an icecream bucket and collapsible buckets, but didn't care for them as sinks... just fetching water. I found them worthwhile for groups, but not for solo. However, I often carry a lightweight water bag when dayhiking from a basecamp; again, that's just to fetch water.

I have to tell you that this is an interesting post. Never thought of carrying a 'sink'. Try this, if you feel the need to have something like that--Get a 4Liter Platypus with a handle. It has a zip top and a pour spout. Fill it up at your water source and either dip the dishes in it through the zip opening or just use the pour spout. For personal, use the spout with a bandana. When you're done spread the water as you pour it out, fold up as much as possible, seal closed, and stuff back in pack. Weighs virtually nothing and serves many purposes. Make sure to let it air over night, if you are using it at camp, though. That keeps the cooties from growing in it!! Have fun and be clean!:)

i've used a couple things:

-a 6qt 'reliance' brand water bladder, cut down. you can also cut it so it has handles. about 2-3oz.
-milk jug, cut down to just below the handle. my favorite. lightest, functional enough. but seldom carried for reasons already stated by others. about 1-2oz, iirc.
-cat litter container (scoopable). sturdiest and biggest of the 3, but also the heaviest. definitely not worth the weight (3-4 oz)

Take a emty gallon and cut out a hole, but leave the handle, just big enough to hold some water, clean pots, bath, wash clothes and since the hadle is still there you can hang it frome your pack. I usded one on a cycling trip from D.C. to Pistburg and back. worked great for a sink, tub, and washing machine..

I carry a cryovac meat pack container. They're indestructable, stand up to hot water, and come in a range of sizes and colors (black, white, translucent gray..). The meat trays can be put to several uses including a 'sink', a dog bowl and, if you must, a dish. I often use mine to support my freezer bag meal but my first motivation for carrying one was to rinse my contacts. Cut a couple pieces of ccf to fit in the bottom and to cover the top and you've got a freezer bag cozy.

The 1lb capacity size weighs a 1/2oz but for washing pots and dishes you'll want a larger size. But then, FBCing takes care of all the kitchen clean up.:)

If you really want to carry one, Sea-To-Summit makes them in two sizes. They fold up pretty compact.
