Those of you that are considering using a Kmart Grease Pot as your cooking pot may want to add this lid locking feature. A twist of the lid will secure it in place to allow for lifting the hot pot off the stove. This locking lid should be of great help to those considering the use of the cone pot support for the grease pot. It would make it easy to lift the pot off the cone.

I used a Dremel rotory hand tool with abrasive cutoff wheel to cut the slots in the lid.

I used two aluminum binding post ends that are threaded on the inside.

I used 1/8 aluminum pop rivets to secure the posts to the pot. The expanding rivet gets driven into the threads of the post for secure attachment.

I used a small file to do some finishing touches to square things off a little.
Some of you may consider giving away your titanium pots so you can start from scratch just to have this type of setup for lifting your pot :D

argh! im frustrated!
i went to walmart in CT today to buy a grease pot to test out some alc. stoves i've been building and all they had was this teapot-looking, heavy aluminum 5 liter thing-a-ma-jig. it had a built in spout and a handle with a loose fitting lid!! it was at least 12 oz and was labeled "grease pot" and didn't look like anything i've seen online...
the positive aspect is that the thing was nearly indestructible...

lol.
i love this stuff...
i hope i never outgrow hiking

Wal-Mart no longer carries the grease pot. K-marts usually have them, however.

Walmart does have a different grease pot though. It is about 4 inch diameter about 6inches tall with a spout and handle. I tried it out on an ion stove and it seemed to work well. I did not time it though. I'll try to find a pic online.

If you can't find one at your local KMart I have plenty.

Hmm..

Haven't seen those in the South yet. They used to carry a stainless steel grease pot about that size but I haven't seen them in a while either.

I'll check again today for the 4" x 6".

yeah, russb, that is the one they had. it was a lot heavier and bulkier than i wanted, but on the pro's side, felt indestructible.
ima check out the local k mart and if i can't find one I might take you up on your offer bullseye.
Thanks, back to stove building....

IIRC they had 2 different sizes. I took a photo of mine. I hope I uploaded it correctly. It weighs in at 3.5oz, 3.1 w/o lid.

Here is the website fo the company that makes it:

http://www.imusausa.com/catalogo/aluminum_cookware.php

It has USA in the name, but they are made in Columbia.

The spout is more like a dimple in the rim, if you know what i mean? This "pot" holds 750mL when filled to "the line".

k, i wasn't sure if the pot in the pic was the 1.5L (looked a bit small) but as I thought it was the smaller mystery pot.
now i have two things to look for at a walmart... nylon has been in short supply lately

I have seen this grease pot. Saw it at a Wal Mart in Rome while I was visiting my parents. Looks like it could be a good cheap option for people.

Thank You for the positive comment everyone. I did it for all of you DIY'ers

I cringe at the thought of using a sweaty bandana:D

I'll have to purchase one of the above mentioned pots and treat it similar but not the same. Make it locking so you can pick it up with the knobby on top.
