Just wanted to share some pics of my fall project. We don't have any trees in the yard to speak of so I built it in 16' 4x4's. I was kidding around and told my wife I was building an AT shelter next, to which she pointed out I already had my shelter out back:D . I'm not sure what the neighbors think since I haven't talked to them since I built it:-?.......

I perfect shelter would be mice free! We were @ Thomas Knob this weekend and the mice woke us up eating peanut MM's!

Nice work. That had to be a fun project.

Very cool project. :D I think it'd be pretty cool to have a shelter in your back yard like one that might be typically found on the trail.
Way Cool. Way to go Super Dad !!!
or umhhh... was this just for you?
Cool! :D

I thought about that before , but then I'd have to plant a bunch of pine trees so I have the whole feel in place

They make you pay for mice at the shelters you go to?
I have to ask, being in NJ what did your township add to your property tax bill for this structure?

Where did you put the privey?
I would love to send a link to the pictures of this shelter to my grandchildren but I fear my son-in-law may never speak to me again :D

I thought that was what the bucket was for.

They didn't. As long as the footprint was under 10x10 they considered it a temporary structure (with 2800 pounds of temporary concrete supporting it:rolleyes: ). Also didn't required permits or have to conform to any building codes:eek: . I made sure my wife explained to the borough exactly what I was planning on doing, and they said go for it.
That being said, I doubt that any building code would have been an issue, as I built it with safety in mind. The structure has a railing at every possible fall point, and the landings are each 3 feet above the last and designed so that you have to go to the end farthest from a ladder to reach the next level(so that 3 feet is the furthest anyone could possibly fall). I have been in the treehouse in 40+ mph winds and with the cross bracing it doesn't move not even a little bit. The floors are attached with hurricane brackets and the walls are bolted through the floor.

Were you supposed to dig the catholes 100 feet or 300 feet away:-? ? I'm just trying to figure out which of my other neighbors will like me more:D !

My wife and I have been looking for a cabin to rent. What would a 3 day weekend cost us in that penthouse?
Oh, and very neat project!
