It has a lot of road walking, IIRC. We did part of it that wasn't road walking and it was nice, but we never went back to finish it.

I've day-hiked bits of it along the west side of the Susquehanna River in southeastern York County, PA. The MDTS evidently is a very dedicated group of folks who love digging sidehill through some interesting terrain.

The A.T. end is about 17 miles of roadwalking though if I remember right, that maintainer comes out on many other work crews in PA - and paints beautiful blazes from much experience. :)

I haven't hiked it but I'm thinking of hiking the Tuscarora starting late May. It runs more North South.

All of it or just some?

I want to hike it all. Should take about three weeks, but Fireball did it is two.

Hope you're able to do trail report/journal as we'll be looking forward to seeing it!

Actually I suspect a GPS track of the entire Tuscarora route may be helpful to the trail volunteers. If you have/are willing to use such capability PM me and I will confirm.

I'll take notes. Not sure about a GPS track though. I'll see if I can figure out Trail Journals.

I did an out and back overnighter on the tuscarora trail, and had a great time. I have also done a dayhike down from the pinnacle. The holtwood parking area leads to kellys run, which you can follow down towards the susquehana river and intersect the tuscarora trail up to the pinnacle-great hike with some stream crossings.

Certainly agree that Kelly's Run Trail near Holtwood is a nice hike!

I'm thinking you mean the Conestoga Trail in Lancaster County since that roughly parallels part of the M-DT along Susquehanna River north of the Norman Wood Bridge, also on PPL land above the Holtwood Dam. http://www.pplweb.com/holtwood/general+information.htm Conestoga Trail passes through some very nice country on its side of the river, including Pinnacle Overlook - which is not the same Pinnacle that's on the PA A.T. by Hawk Mountain in Berks County.

Tuscarora Trail is a longer path that is further west in PA and also passes through MD, WV, and VA making a large loop with the A.T. http://potomacappalachian.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=43 The middle of Tuscarora Trail is also part of Great Eastern Trail http://www.greateasterntrail.org/ and the two ends could conceivably be used as connectors between the GET and the A.T. for those who might be inclined to do long networked hikes. Tuscarora Trail does not intersect Mason-Dixon Trail as both other paths meet the A.T. on opposite sides of the Cumberland Valley.
