Jumpstart 09-15-2002, 11:25 My husband bought the generic superfeet in Hot SPrings and loved them immediately. I also bought a pair, and could not for the life of me get them to be comfortable, so I thought I just wasn't going to be able to use them. When we got up to Vermont, we took a zero day and went to an REI, where I had a pair of custom ones made ( they vaccuum seal your foot to the footbed while it's still warm to mold it to your feet) and after 2 days of break in I wouldn't hike without them. They fit in my trail sneakers just fine, and were incredibly comfortable and supportive, and practically eliminated my tendency to over-pronate (roll your foot to the inside). We did notice a LOT of hikers using them and finding benefit. Hope this helps someone!
Hammock Hanger 09-15-2002, 15:55 I started with an old pair and doubt they were doing any good. However, I had no blisters or foot pain so I was happy. Around Hot Springs I began experiencing some pain, so I brought new ones. I brought the brandname ones at $30. a pair at Bluff Outfitters in Hot Springs. They were a little uncomfotable for about 4-5 days. I would start off in the morning with them around lunchtime I would take them out. Eventually I couldn't feel them and that was that.
Unfortunately the pain in my foot intensified and by Pearisburg I was at the ER. That was my 01 hike, when they discoverd the sewing needle in my foot. Superfeet couldn't help with that. Hammock Hanger
Last summer, I did the northern half of the AT using the insole that came with the boots. By Katahdin, my feet were so very tender. It took a long time after (like months) before my feet felt normal again.
This year, I bought the green superfeet, and used them on the southern half of the AT. My feet felt fine. In fact, I ran a road race within days after getting off the trail. So, I'm a happy camper with them.
Trail Yeti 10-03-2002, 12:42 Bought a pair at Neel's Gap...the generic ones take a couple of days to "break in" for me, but after that...they were great. Made the mistake of not getting a new pair at Harpers Ferry and used the insoles that came w/my trail runners....that led to 4 zero days in Pawling NY my feet hurt so bad. Needless to say, when I bought new shoes I bought superfeet to go w/them. What can I say except that they are well, "super" ha ha ha:p
life is good,WEAR A KILT!

Does anyone know if Superfeet have a lifespan? That is, after a certain number of miles, do they start to degrade? Mine smell so much that I was actually embarassed to take off my shoes inside a shelter. The shoes didn't smell so much, but the Superfeet were absolutely retched. My current Superfeet have an assortment of weekend hikes, 40 days in Nepal, and 28 days on the AT. All told around 700 miles on them. I have a separate pair for mountaineering (superstition). Other than the stink, is there a reason to toss them? They are mostly in one piece (plastic heel is unglued).
I asked that question to the Superfeet rep at Trail Days.
It's time to replace your Superfeet when the plastic heel piece on bottom gets "milk-jug" colored from flexing, or when the green top layer is worn off from your foot sliding on them.
I have four pair. I use a pair in every pair of shoes that I wear. Chris - you can WASH THEM!!!!!!
I've started soaking my superfeet in a bleach-water solution. This seems to help a bit and is something I wish I had done before last summer. When I say my feet stink, I really mean it!
