When will you finally go to sleep, on New Years Eve?
Do you always get tired, and drift off at the same time every day, around hikers midnight (9PM), .................................................. .or will you tough it out, and ring in the New Year at 12:00 AM with your eyes open?

I normally go to sleep around 08:00 a.m.
As long as the batteries on my new headlamp hold out I'll keep on partying. :banana

Hey LW I want to see Wingfoot, bring him by when you guys get back in town.......
I was going to hike to Abingdon Gap but the weather is suppose to be good today so I am going to set up in front of the house and sell some junk, besides I didn't make diddly squat at the flea market this weekend. Just in case you are in the area my junk is new junk, never used. I have alot of vitamins, pain killers, insulated socks, some knives, LED cap lights, Shea Butter, and on and on and on.............
If I do well in sales today I may sit up til midnight and at the strike of twelve go out in front of the house and whoop and hollar in my church suit...........that's a big maybe,,,,,,

Dinos will be all snug in their bed, while visions of black-eyed peas and hog's jowl dance in their heads. :D

Don't forget the collard greens.Have a lovely group of collards growing in the green patch... however, the iguana eats them more than the Dinos (He-Dino won't eat any greens period )

WOW, what a herd of wet blankets. I'm leaving to go up to a friends cabin in Big Bear. YA !, party on, and watch the ball drop in N.Y. City, then go to bed.
I guess that means hiker midnight out west :o . I wish you all a Happy New Year, and there, "aint no legends on the Trail" Wolf .

I'll be up to see the new year in. At midnight I go out my front door and bang some pots and pans to make some noise and wake up the neighbors :)

Yup, nother day.......... exepct for us in MD it'll bring a lot of new taxes...... HIGH TAXES, thanks Maryland!
Happy New Year to WB's every where!!!!***
**** unless your invloved in these new taxes for MD... then I'd have to say..... May both your trekking poles break and cause you to tumble down a mountain, getting stuck in the mud pit at the bottom, making you spend the next 4 months eating bugs and drinking mud water! :banana
I'll be in bed early too. I'm starting the Eastern John Muir Trail (through Tennessee's Big South Fork NRRA just after first light. It will be a COLD 4 days (below freezing until Friday) with night temps in the teens, but it's the Cumberland Plateau, not the mild middle part of Tennessee. :o

Ditto. I just make sure it's bird shot, not 00 Buck.:)
I might be going to a party with some friends to ring in the new year, but that is still TBD. If not, then I will go downtown and do the countdown even though Portland does a countdown at 5pm instead of 12 because we believe new years should be a family event. We should have both! If I do neither of those, then I will go to sleep at 12:05, New Years is not that special.

Having gotten into the nasty habit of working for too many years on the graveyard shift, I don't sleep very well at night. Even though I've retired in 2007, I still can't fall asleep until about 5 or 5:30 A.M., and then only for about three hours. So, on New Years' Eve, I spend dinner with my younger daughter and three grandchildren, enjoy a bit of family fun until about 9:30 and then head home. It's now just past 3:00 A.M., and I've spent the past four hours outside with my telescope viewing the constellations Orion, Gemini, Auriga and Taurus, and the planet Mars.
Tonight was the first really cold night we've had this winter, so the sky was as clear as I like it to be. Whenever anyone is out on the Trail, I hope you take a few minutes each evening to find an opening in the trees and turn your gaze upward! It's the best view you'll have!
Good "seeing," good hiking, and the very best wishes for a great New Year! Now, if this darned knee I injured last year SOBO from the Telephone Pioneers Shelter in New York would finally heal, I'd be able to continue my AT dream.
Fell asleep around 11 PM in my easy chair and awoke at 12:05 AM when one of the kids called to wish us a Happy New Year. We did get in a nice night hike though, and had an amazing meal with friends! Hope everyone had a good night!

LW I'd like to hear more about that. Perhaps when I see you next over a PBR. :sun
FD I love blackeyed peas and spicy fixins. I love greens, I love it all...I'm a pure bred Appalachian woman; you didn't mention the white cornbread with buttermilk and a dash of salt though ;)
I actually stayed awake until 1:00 a.m. last night and they were still shooting guns off here in Cleveland Ohio with a beautiful display of sky fireworks everywhere in the 'hood.
I fell asleep listening to Art Bell, just the way I like it.
This morning I'm meeting my cousins for breakfast and I'm frying up pork chops. I drench them in hot sauce and have a few cubed home fries with that.
Happy New Year everyone, I love you guys. I hope the New Year brings you health, happiness and beautiful hiking days.
Kudos to you all out there hiking now, especially in the cold! :banana
