Curious ...why the Bearikade ??
Reason for asking is that in starting to get my gear lined up for a 2009 PCT hike I did some reading on bear cannisters and ended up with the BearVault.

I'll also be using a Bear Vault. The Bearikade's are a few ounces lighter but at four to five times the cost.
Slogger if you haven't purchased it yet, Bear Vault has a PCT thru-hiker rate and will send it to Kennedy Meadows for $65-

Heard about that and was going to go that way but a hiker from last year sold me theirs for half what they paid for it. Think I got it for about $40 so I jumped at the opportunity. Had a few scratches but that gave it a sort of "trail worn" look and I figured it'd look at least that bad or worse when I got done with it.

I've got the BV500 and you could fit quite a bit of food in that thing if you really pack it right.
I'd save the $200 and go with it and stealth camp if you're worried about bears figuring out the two lock ordeal

Why not use an unused gallon paint can?
Why not use an unused gallon paint can?
That's not an approved canister (http://www.sierrawildbear.gov/foodstorage/approvedcontainers.htm), and wouldn't be effective. Also, even if it was effective, it would be too small.
one obviously does not need an approved canister;)

I'm currently thru-hiking the PCT. Just finished the PCT sections that required having a bear canister. I bought a new Bearvault 450/500. Clear plastic with black lid that opens by pushing in 2 tabs on the lid. Check out their website for views and exact wt. Just sent it back to the east coast for storage. I would be willing to loan it to U for your next yr's PCT thru-hike providing U send it back to me. No problema. E-Mail me.

Well it appears that my original post took on a new life here. I am still looking for a Bearikade canister, preferably the Expedition. If anyone out there has one that they would like to sell, please contact me.
