I'm in the process of making a pepsi stove... actually everything is made just waitng for assembly (I have the top piece, bottom piece and inner wall).
My question is regarding the inner wall. Did you guys JB weld the inner wall to the top piece of the stove or did you just let it sit in the grooves freely? Everything is waiting for assembly....
Thanks guys.
Dan
Use the JB Weld on the outer walls only.
jb weld?? don't need it. Just let the inner wall rest inside the groove as you put the two pieces together. I use a little tape to hold the inner wall together, then pull the tape off and it'll stay just fine. No need to weld anything. Heat tape for around the seam of the two cans, that's it. Good luck. I've used mine for 3 summers now and it's still going strong.

Well, the only place I have used the JB weld so far is on the inner wall. I put a thin bead on the seam on the inner wall. I was also going to do a thin bead on the seam of top and bottom piece comming together... I might not do it though.
One more question, I was following directions before and it said to put the top piece over the bottom. Im doing it the opposite. Only because I already cut a bunch of slits in the top piece. Im thinking that it wont make a damn of a difference but just want to be 100% sure before I finish her up. LMK.
I put my top can into the bottom, then sealed up the seam with heat tape. You might have flames coming out of the seam if you don't. Some folks don't even use tape, whatever works for you, I needed the tape.

I had 8 slits in the top but I was getting super frustrated trying to get it to fit so I put like 5-6 more slices. I have a good feeling that Im going to have to use tape. I might even throw a real thin bead of JB on it and than the tape. I know its overkill but I want to be 100% you know. Anybody have a how-to on the infamous "gram wienie"? I think thats my next stove.
I've put the top into the bottom, the bottom into the top, Used JB on everything, not used any JB, all different combinations. Not really a lot of difference in my experience. Three tips - 1. Whichever you put the slits in, top or bottom, put the slit piece inside the other one. Much neater. 2. And if you use JB weld be sure to use the regular, not the quick curing. The regular has much more heat resistance. 3. If you don't use the tape to cover the seam get some 000 or 0000 steel wool (anywhere paint supplies are sold) and rub the paint off the can with it. Makes it really shine, looks chrome plated.

I put JB Weld on the inner wall and then wipe off all excess. Leaves just enugh to seal any slits that were over cut. I go from ready to eat to eating in 10 minutes or less with my Pepsi stove. Wouldn't trade it for the world!

Not the gram weenie but the basic principle from making a white box clone. involves cutting an aluminum beer bottle and inverting the bottle neck to fit in the base. It's a real PITA to get them to fit properly unless you know exactly where to cut. Did about 4 trial and errors to get it perfect. Don't have a link for instructions. I just figured it out by looking at tinny's version the BIOS at mbdesigns.
If you use the directions at PCTHiker.com (http://www.pcthiker.com/pages/gear/pepsistove.shtml), then you need no adhesive on the inner wall. I used those directions to make my first alcohol stove and the only adhesive I needed was the flue tape around the outside to keep flames from coming out the side. I had no problem making even my first one, the directions are very easy to follow.

i have never personally used jb weld but hear it works well.
i haven't used tape either and have never had a stove problem with the pepsi types; mine just tend to burn too wide for my preference (jetboil or heine. pot)
good luck! :)
A "Red Bull" can is the perfect size for the inner sleave. Use the bottom of the can and drill 3 holes around the bottom rim. To get the Pepsi cans to slide together, take the top or bottom and push onto a unopened can of Pepsi. This will strech the can enough to put your stove together.
Thats what I dead used a full can of pepsi and stuck it into the bottom to stretch it a little. Then as I press the 2 sides together I twisted them a little and they have always went together easily.

Thanks for the help guys. I JB welded the inner wall where the two sides come together and I put a super thin bead where the bottom of the stove comes over the top side of the stove. I gave it 24 hours to cure and tried it last night. It worked flawlessly with no leaks, etc. Next stove on my list is the gram wienie mini white box knock off stove :)
