I had a couple of requests for the biscuit recipe.
Grandmother Thomas' Angel Biscuits
5 c. flour
3 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2/3 c. lard or shortening (I use unsalted butter)
1 package yeast dissolved in 1/2 c. lukewarm water
2 c. buttermilk
Measure flour into large bowl.
Mix yeast w/ warm water; set aside.
Add remaining dry ingredients to flour. Mix well.
Cut in lard or shortening.
Stir in buttermilk and yeast mixture.
Refrigerate in large covered container overnight.
Pat or roll out desired amount of dough on floured surface and cut into biscuits.
Place on lightly greased baking sheet.
Bake at 425 degree until nicely browned.
It is NOT necessary to let biscuits rise before baking.
This dough will keep one week in the refrigerator.
Yields about 2 dozen biscuits.
