Just bought the complete set of maps for the A.T. from the ATC. Should be here in a few days.

What I am looking for now is if anyone has made a list of trail info along the way that wouldnt be found on most of the guide books.

- Where stores are at
- Good resupply points
- Nice hotels with computers, good prices.....so on
- Certain areas I should be "carefull" at - non-hiker freindly areas.
- Cool places I shouldnt miss

1) I have the Thru-Hikers book already, so I will be marking that info down.

2) I will be looking through postings (search feature) also.

Not really sure what the Thru-Hikers book is, but town info can be found in these publications: Companion (https://www.atctrailstore.org/catalog/iteminfo.cfm?itemid=604&compid=1), Handbook (http://www.trailplace.com/hb_2008edition.html), Appalachian Pages (http://www.appalachianpages.com/).

See you on the trail,

I was just checking to see if somebody made a list of the info already.

Thanks for the links to the guide books.

Jack Tarlin's articles on resupply, in the articles section on the left side of the WB homepage (click "AT Resupply Info"), has a lot of the information you are looking for.

Well, that's probably your best bet - searching through WB forums etc. Everyone's list will be different anyway. I mean we did more motel type nights than hostel. Most on a budget would do hostel. Most hostels have computers. And guidebooks have store info for towns and Jack's article has resupply points. As for cool places, the whole trail, really. A lot you learn by just being on the trail - seeing where your friends are staying, etc. Up north, hearing from SOBO hikers. (we changed where we were staying in Gorham after talking to a SOBO at Carter Notch, for example). But really, the guidebooks ae very helpful for general info and sites.

Here's a link to the on-line ALDHA Companion. (http://www.aldha.org/comp_pdf.htm) It has this sort of info.

If you have the Thru-hiker's Handbook it is easier to find this sort info in that publication.

One of the most accurate and updated sources of information can be found on the trail itself. Check the registers in all the shelters that you find. Outside of the usual ramblings ... hikers are pretty good at keeping each other updated on resources available in the area (where to go/not to go) shuttles, good restaurants - hostels. It's not 100% but it's something to keep in mind.

it will be alot more clear as you begin to hike. 35 miles from springer you will reach walasi-yi(outfitter,hostel,etc...) cant miss it you go right thru the building. great outfitter ask for winton, heald or cornbread? they will hook you up with anything and everything... have a great hike.
